Chapter 20

"Mommy, park" Avery says. I promised her last night that we could go to the park but now it is raining. She remembered and now won't stop bothering me to go.

"Baby it's raining outside. We can go tomorrow" I say.

"Now" She says. She's really bored right now. I'm trying to keep her occupied with playing with some of her toys because she's not having it.

"Tomorrow" I say.

As I say that my phones starts to ring. I look and it is Riley. Riley never calls me so this must be important.

I answer the phone. "Hi Riley" I say.

"Maya..." She says with her voice cracking. She sounded upset. I swear if Farkle broke up with her I am going to kill him.

"Riley what's wrong?" I ask.

"Can you just come over?" She asks.

"Yeah. I'll be over in five minutes" I say.

"Don't bring Avery" She says.

"Ok. Then fifteen minutes" I say.

"Ok" She says.

She hangs up and I call Lucas. It is not unusual for me to call Lucas. We have been talking on the phone a lot since that trip upstate.

"Hey Lucas" I say when he answers the phone.

"Hi. What's up?" He asks.

"I was wondering if you can take Avery for a little while. I have to go somewhere" I say.

"Yeah sure. I'll come over and pick her up" He says.

"Don't bother. I'll drop her off" I say.

"Ok. I'll see you soon" He says.

I hang up and say, "Get your shoes on" to Avery.

"Yay! Park!" She says.

"No. Not the park. You are going to daddy's house" I say.

"Ok" She says.

We go over to the door and I put her shoes on and then we leave.

"What daddy doing?" She asks.

"I don't know but you are going to go hangout with him and I am going to go to Riley's" I say.

"I come!" She says.

"You can come next time. I don't think Auggie is there today" I say. I love that now that she is older I can have little conversations like this with her.

"Ok" She says.

We go to Lucas's house and I knock on the door.

"Hey" He says and opens the door.

Avery goes running into his arms. "Hi daddy" She says.

"Hi Avery" He says and picks her up. "Want to stay for a little bit?" He asks me.

"I can't. Riley needs me for something" I say.

"When can we talk about us?" He asks. I've been blowing off the conversation since the trip. I should really start preparing for it.

"Soon I promise" I say.

"Ok" He says.

I say bye to him and then I say bye to Avery. I leave and go to Riley's house. I really want to know what she is upset about. I'm sure it's nothing.

I go to up to her apartment and knock on the door.

"Come in" She says through the door.

I open the door and walk in. She was sitting on the couch literally doing nothing. The tv wasn't on and she was just starring into space. When I walked in she looked at me.

"What's wrongs Riles?" I ask.

"Maya, I messed up" She says and looks and sounds like she is about to start crying. I go and sit next to her.

"What happened?" I ask.

She tried to talk but couldn't. She just started crying and couldn't stop. I hugged her really tight. "It's ok Riley" I say. Something must be really wrong. "Can you tell me what's wrong?" I ask. She nods. She stands up and pulls me by my wrist into the bathroom. I look in the sink and there are three pregnancy tests in there all reading positive. I look up at her and she stopped crying.

I almost took a sigh of relief. I went through this before, it's not that bad. She'll make it out the other end just fine.

I look at her again and she looks like she is about to start crying again.

"You want to talk about it?" I ask.

She nods her head. We go into her bedroom and sit in the window.

"What's going through your head? I went through this so I kinda already know" I say.

"Will I be able to graduate?" She asks.

"Yes Riley. You do great in school. Even if you start slipping up now it's not gonna matter. You will still pass" I say.

"What about college?" She asks.

"Your gonna spend the rest of your life with Farkle who doesn't have to work a day in a life. You've seen his house I'm sure he has a giant trust fund waiting for him once he turns eighteen. But Farkle is still gonna work and take over his dads business one day to take care of you, this baby and any other kids that come along the way because that's just the guy Farkle is" I say.

"It wouldn't be fair to put all of that on him and have me do nothing" She says.

"If you really want to go to college then go. You will probably have to go to school locally so you are lucky we live in New York City. I'll be home everyday of my life with Avery so I will babysit your baby if you do chose going to college" I say.

"What is everyone at school going to think?" She asks.

"There is only two months of school left. You can probably hide it from them until then" I say.

"What about Farkle?" She asks.

"He doesn't know?" I ask.

"No. I just found out a hour ago" She says. I kinda feel bad that I knew before Farkle.

"I don't know how Farkle is going to take the news but I can't wait to be a little bitch to him after he finds out" I say. He was mean to my kid I'm gonna do the exact same thing to him.

"Please don't" She says.

"We'll see" I say.

"What about my parents? They are going to kill me" She says.

"They are not going to kill you Riley. It will all work out. I promise. Stop worrying" I say.

"But I'm scared" She says.

"It will all be ok" I say.

"You promise?" She asks.

"I promise" I say and give her a tight hug.
