For this state visit to Mexico, Jackie was sensitive about her clothes. She asked Cassini this time not to make clothes for her but to select clothes from his collection and she would return them.
For her arrival in Mexico city, Jackie wore a pale green gazar dress and coat with a matching hat in a flat, shiny straw. The coat is now in the JFK Library. When you see the images of it now, it looks more like a blue coat than pale green.
Another Mexican piece was a white dress with black buttons and a black leather belt. It drew in it's inspiration from the military.
One of Jackie's best qualities was her linguist ability. Unlike her husband she could speak perfect French, Spanish and Italian and could manage some bits of German and Polish. Mexico's official language is Spanish so with her ability to speak it, wearing her hot pink sleeveless dress, she spoke to everyone in their official language at the luncheon.
One of Jackie's famous dresses was worn in Mexico. Her strapless gown is very striking. It is a Nattier blue and was one of her favourites. She even kept it after her husband died and wore it still. She wore a starbust pin on the bodice.
Jackie captured a new nation of Mexico because of her ability to speak Spanish. When her husband died, Lyndon B. Johnson offered her the Ambassadorship to Mexico. However she politely turned him down as being an Ambassador means returning to the White House. Which was something she could hardly do after JFK was murdered.
