Jackie's wedding day was quite a show. A gorgeous bride, over 1000 guests, a 100 year old church and a 5-star reception at a gorgeous house in Newport.
In my opinion Jackie looks gorgeous in her wedding gown to JFK but to Jackie she didn't quite look her best. When Jackie was growing up, she had her own dress-maker called Mini Rhea. Jackie would design her clothes and Mini would try and make them for her. However Mini was shocked when she saw Jackie getting married.
Jackie would have liked to have had a simple gown and her husband would have liked to have seen her wearing that but her mother Janet, bought her a dress without even Jackie's permission. I do feel sorry for her as she didn't want to wear the dress but her mother made her. And what's more that wasn't the only disappointment of Jackie's wedding day.
Her beloved father John wasn't invited. Janet was the one who put herself in charge of the invites and Jackie begged her to invite her father to give her away. Janet didn't like that idea and she only invited him to the reception. When he found out, John Bouvier was very upset. He went out and got drunk. And Janet who know saw him as an embarrassment, said he couldn't come at all. Jackie was upset as her stepfather Hugh Auchincloss had to give her away instead.
Jackie's wedding gown was designed by African-American designer Ann Lowe. Several weeks before the wedding, Ann Lowe's shop flooded and the dress and that of the bridesmaids had to be remade and completed exactly 10 days before the wedding.
Jackie didn't like her wedding dress. Caroline Kennedy later stated: "My mother really didn't like the dress that much. I think she thought it looked a little bit like a lampshade".
