One of the most famous highlights of Jackie's life, in fact the Kennedy reign or perhaps the entire decade of the 60s was Jackie's state visit to India and Pakistan. This was Jackie's first solo trip without her husband and it lasted several weeks in 1962. Instead of her husband, she was accompanied by her sister Lee, who served as Jackie's sort of lady-in-waiting for the trip.
In this state visit, Jackie visited the Taj Mahal, watched a polo match, rode and fed an elephant and was presented with a horse called Sardar. When Jackie travelled around many people shouted at her "Mrs Kennedy, Zindabad" which mean 'long live Mrs Kennedy'. The people hailed her as the Amriki Rani which means Queen of America.
Some of Jackie's most famous fashion pieces were worn on this trip. Here is some pieces of the fashion she wore:
One of Jackie's most famous dresses was her apricot silk ziberline dress and matching coat, but mainly the dress. It was made rom silk ziberline and was designed by Cassini. The dress is very famous. For a boat ride on Lake Pichola in Udaipur in India, Jackie wore this dress. The dress was carefully designed and planned by Cassini.
The silk ziberline was a perfect fabric for many of Jackie's clothes in this visit. The fabric was rigid enough to keep it's compusure in the hot climate. And most of her India and Pakistan wardrobe was pastel and dazzling colours so she could be recognised among everyone. Everyone gazed as Jackie's dress sparkled in the sun as her barge travelled up the river towards the White Palace.
Another piece by Cassini was Jackie's ice blue dress and matching coat. It too was made from silk ziberline and it would have glowed and dazzled in the gorgeous sun of India. Her ice blue ensemble was worn by Jackie for her visit to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Dehli.
Jackie's trips to India and Pakistan made her now an instant hit around the world. Reports say even after she left, people still called her the Queen of America and they were deeply upset after President Kennedy died.
