Mark's POV:
"Evan?"
With every second passing I was closer to burst into tears.
"Mark! It is you! Look, I-"
"I don't wanna hear it" I cut him off. My eyes were burning, tears seriously threatening to fall.
"Don't be like that. I just wanted to say I'm sorry"
"Sorry for what? Ruining my life completely?"
Evan sighed at the other end of the call.
"I... I know it's been years, Mark, but I-"
"Four years to be exact." I spat.
"Yes, four years, but..." he went silent.
"Why did you call me now? I had finally succeeded to distract me from you." My voice cracked at the last word.
"I know what I did, and it was wrong. I just... Thought I'd be able to forget about you that way. But of course it didn't work. I gathered strength the four years and now I called you, to say I'm so sorry and to ask if I still have a chance or is it too late?"
I pitied him, he sounded genuinely sorry. If I hadn't met Jackson, I would've maybe gotten back to him. Just maybe.
"Evan... I think we should just stay like this, you know, exes should stay as exes and-"
"No! I don't want to stay like this. I need you back in my life, Mark. I love you" He sounded as if he was just about to cry.
"I'm sorry Evan."
"Why won't you take me back? I can change, I'll do whatever you ask me to do. Just please, I need you."
"Look, Evan. It's not just that I don't want you back, it's more than that." I sighed.
"What is it?"
I closed my eyes. Should I tell him?
"I'm engaged."
The line went silent. For a second I thought he hung up, until I heard a faint noise.
"To.... To who..?"
"It's none of your business. Please don't call me ever again." I was just about to hang up but the shouted something.
"No, wait! I moved all the way back to Cali, please just... Let's be friends atleast."
"No. And don't call me again."
I hung up.
I sighed and sat on my bed. I didn't know how to feel about this. I had just forgotten about him.
Evan is my ex-boyfriend from four years ago.
We were a happy couple until I discovered him cheating on me. With my sister.
Yes, my sister.
After our breakup, Evan accused me of rape when my sister got pregnant by a random dude from the club. She didn't want Evan to find out so she told him that I had raped her.
The court wouldn't believe me, so it all was just straight hell until the baby was born and got tested.
He ruined my relationship to my sister and to the rest of my family. Even my own family was against me.
I moved all the way from Chicago to Los Angeles in hopes to forget about it.
Unfortunately the accusions made me almost impossible to get a job.
I was poor and far away from home. I even wanted to die at a certain point.Things got better, I finally got a job and then Jackson. I finally became happy again.
I most certainly don't want anything to do with Evan anymore. I hate him.
"Everything alright in here baby? You sounded upset." Jackson came into the room and sat next to me.
"Did you eavesdrop on me?"
"No. I heard your voice but couldn't make out any words."
"I'm okay. Evan called me."
Jackson looked surprised.
"Evan? Your friend who you went to high school with?"
"Yeah well, actually, he was my boyfriend at that time."
"Really?"
"Yeah... He called to say sorry and wanted me back. I rejected him, I have you. You are all I ever wanted."
Jackson just nodded.
"Let's go and have breakfast. I can hear your stomach grumbling."
With that said we left the room to get some food.
The rest of the day was just laying around and eating and watching Netflix.
