Moving to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan was a big deal to me at 6 years old. I was in first grade and didn't want to leave my friends behind. I missed seeing my dad and knew that he wouldn't come to visit us. Silas took all of my mom's attention and I didn't like it at all. Being a second born child, I'm naturally an attention-seeker, or I was when I was little. I did love to boss him around, though.
I started at a new school and realized just how big the world, or Canada, was. I didn't know anyone and was immediately more shy and started being more and more quiet in public. I made a friend a few weeks later, though. Her name was Mila and she was the only friend I made while we lived in Moose Jaw. We did a lot together and I still write back and forth with her from time-to-time.
Moose Jaw is pretty boring. For the duration that we lived there we went to a few different museums, but that was literally it. I wasn't taking any lessons, my brother was often out with his friends, and my mom and step-dad were always busy. I wanted to see my dad again but that was the reason why we moved in the first place.
I starting singing around the house, trying to make it a happy place, because at that age, to me, music=happiness. My step-dad had gotten rid of our piano when we moved, even though he knew that I loved fooling around with it, so I could only sing, and I'm sure that I annoyed everyone.
When my mom and step-dad told us that we were moving back I was super excited and started talking a mile a minute about seeing my dad again.
"He won't be there," my step-father said sternly.
Thank you for crushing my little 9-year-old dreams...
