"That should get you moving." The voice snarls with maliciousness before the speaker ends.
I feel a shaking hand grab my arm and once again I am compelled to face Amber whose face is plagued with a mixture of agony and fear,
"H-he's dead, isn't he?" She chokes out and her hand shakes wildly in mine. As I look at her, I am left speechless.
What do I say? What can I say? It was my fault he is dead.
Tears begin to slip from her eyes, and with shaking legs and arms I push myself back from the table. She stares at me wide-eyed with an expression on her face that wordlessly begs me not to leave.
"I need to make sure Constance is okay." I state plainly, and she hangs her head low as she begins to sob.
Through her cries I can hear her "Why's" and "Constance's" and my heart earnestly aches for her.
Constance. Why did she have to go and leave her friend behind?
Nonetheless, I push myself away from the table, feeling all eyes in the room glued to me like they were watching a cinema. Their eyes burning through me as all I can feel is their confusion, their blame, and more importantly their pain as they watch me traverse across the cafeteria floor in shame. As I reach the front, one of the teachers approaches me, but I merely wave him off as I push myself through the doors.
Why me? Why did I have to be born with this power that I never even asked for? Why are these people doing this?
I quicken my pace as the thoughts spiral inside my mind.
What am I even going to do when I get there? I can read minds, but how will that help me at all in these circumstances?
I turn the corner but stop short when I notice Constance standing in the middle of the hallway. Ahead of her stands three men bearing stern faces as they watch her carefully. Constance speaks softly,
"Who is the Brotherhood and why do they want people with the power?"
One of the men steps forward, he is tall and broad-shouldered with a scraggly beard, but Constance remains still in her position,
"The Brotherhood is an organization of those who possess the power. Our goal is to overthrow the current rulers of the Third Eye Universe in order to secure our survival on Earth as well."
The Third Eye Universe?
He continues to walk forward toward Constance as he speaks,
"For too long we have been shamed for our powers, but why? We can take this world for our own." He pauses in front of Constance eyeing her up and down in scrutiny,
"You look like somebody I know." He reaches his hand forward, but immediately as he does he is flung backwards.
By what? I didn't see anything? How did he move?
"Oi, don't get too close lad." Constance remarks, but her voice sounds different. Braver and bolder than usual. If she is putting on a tough act, she is putting on a good one. The man shakes his head and straightens himself up. A large grin forms across his mouth as he talks,
"That's a wonderful power you got there."
Constance has a power? The dots begin to connect inside my mind as I remember the events that just occured.
"Telekinesis is a strong one." He begins to walk closer, but this time I notice his hands are sparking yellow particles.
Electricity?
