CHAPTER THREE
PUNCHING IS (NOT) THE ANSWER

✦✧✦✧✦

It was a new week at Beacon Hills High, and Violet McCall was at a place she wasn't used to being at during her first period: the lacrosse field. But it hadn't been Scott or Stiles that asked her to attend. It was Isaac. Once all the players were on the field, Scott pulled her aside before the game began.

"There's a new werewolf. He's on the team." Scott whispered.

"What? How do you know?" Violet asked, looking around at all the players, and spotted Isaac. He looked nervous and for some reason his shoulders were heaving.

"I smelled him. I don't—"

"Scott!" Stiles called, cutting Scott off as he waved him over.

"I'll tell you the rest later." Scott said as he jogged off.

Violet couldn't hold herself back. When she approached Isaac on the field, he jumped upon contact with his shoulder. "Oh, hey, you made it." His face lifted a little at her presence.

"Yeah, I figured I could stop by. I have english first period, but we're reading a book so naturally I already finished it." Violet giggled a bit, tucking her hair behind her ear. "I noticed you looked a bit nervous. Everything okay?" she asked.

"Oh yeah, everything's fine. Something happened last night, I'm just a little weirded out."

As soon as Isaac finished his sentence, Coach blew his ear aching whistle and all the players scurried onto the field. Violet ran back to the bleachers where she watched.

Scott moved to his position as goalie and the defense player went in front of him as the rest of the players lined up. Stiles stood behind Isaac, who still looked nervous. It perplexed her enough to grab Stiles' attention and shrug at him while inconspicuously pointing to Isaac. Stiles only shrugged back, but was now aware of the boy's heavy breathing.

After each and every player, Scott went around the defense and collided with his teammate, causing both boys to tumble to the ground. Violet figured it was in Scott's endeavor to find the new werewolf, and that it was Stiles' plan that was now taking place.

Coach scolded Scott every time up until Jackson's turn came up, but excused himself, saying that his shoulder hurt. Isaac was up next. Now Violet was nervous. Because she knew that Scott would do the same thing to Isaac as he'd been doing with all the other players. Isaac continued breathing heavily, shoulders heaving. Stiles looked as concerned as Violet before turning to her and pointing violently to Isaac before Scott was going to smash into him.

Scott and Isaac collided, but in more of a graceful way. It was almost as if the collision was in slow motion, both their hands were on each other's shoulders as they did a 180 spin before landing on the ground on all fours. The two looked up at each other and seemed to exchange words. They'd been in their places for a while before Coach lightly blew his whistle.
