I couldn't help but groan. I was at Wolfy's tree. We had met at the same spot for two months and today he didn't show up. It was noon and I got worried so I came to find him. Was it too cold for him? It is winter... I walk into the giant hollow tree just to see the giant curled up in his human form.
He was still asleep and his back was facing me. What caught my attention was he was shivering, wait no...he was shaking. "Wolfy are you okay?" I question worriedly. He doesn't answer me, I really wasn't expecting an answer, he's sleeping. I walk around till i was in front of his face. His cheeks were pink, that's unnatural for him. His nose was also an irritated red...also unnatural. I stupidly put a hand on the tip of his reddened nose. That was a mistake. Wolfy's nose gave a small twitch as he scrunched up his face. I instantly jump back; I know I made the right choice of moving away from his face, for he raised a hand to scrub at the bothered appended. I watch as Wolfy slowly blinks awake when he is done making his already red nose even redder.
It takes his eyes about two minutes to focus on me. When they finally do he asks, "Rayn?" Oh wow....my actual name, he hasn't said it in awhile. " yes, How you doing Wolf? You didn't come to the meeting spot and it's past noon." I say letting a small bit of worry fill my voice. His brow furrows like he is confused. I frown up at him, since he woke up his shaking has gotten worse. " D-don't feel g-good. C-cold." I look up at Wolf with sympathy in my eyes. I can't help but think this is my fault. I dared him to jump in the lake two days ago; he did, and now he was sick.
I am taken from my thoughts when my sick friend suddenly rolls onto his back, sits up, tilts his head back slightly, then snaps it down with violent sounding,"Hhhhh...HHSHXX!" Well fuck, the stifled sneeze sounded painful, and I was confirmed it was did when Wolf groaned. " Bless you big guy, I'm guessing you got a cold?" I coo up to him. He nods sleepily. I hope he doesn't have the damn flu. . " Awww.... Poor baby, you should lay back down." I continue to coo. He complies. Wolfy is still shivering and I don't like it. " wolfy-" I say. "- I'm going home real quick, I think I have something there that will help you warm up a bit."
Suddenly Wolf sits up with tears in his eyes. This shocked me. " Don't l-leave m-me" he whined. Oh, I think I get it , all he heard was I'm leaving. "Shhh... It's okay buddy, I'll be back in half an hour." He harshly sniffles and asks me a one word question, " Promise?" I give him a bright smile and nod. He smiles back before laying on his stomach. Seeing his eyes start to droop I run out of the hollow tree to my home.
I had to take five short breaks on my run home. I ran all twelve miles home in fifteen minutes. I pant while I go through the multi colored rooms. I go into my room and get two blankets and my backpack. I then go to a room I use as storage. I find a tarp that's about forty feet by 30 feet long. I fold the tarp and blankets as small as they would go then stuffed them into my backpack. They barely fit.
I run back to Wolfy's home. When I get there he is having a sneezing fit. He sounds congested and his constant sniffling isn't helping. Once I enter the opening of the tree his sneezing fit winds down but his sniffling does not. "WOLFY!-" I snap at the sniveling giant. "- YOU CAN'T BE SNIFFLING ALL THAT MUCUS BACK IN!" Wolf just whines and curls up into a shivering ball.
I sigh and pull out one of the blankets from the backpack. I then go over to Mt. shivers and tap him on the nose. He scrunches his face at the touch. Clicking my tongue I put the cloth into one of his hands. " Blow your nose so you can breath Wolf." He gives my a questioning and confused look. " Please Wolfy" I whine. When I whine he sits up and uses the blanket to blow his nose. He sighs semi happily. I give him a smile, then he shivers and my smile turns into a frown.
I crawl over to my backpack and pull out the huge tarp. Dragging it behind me I look up at wolf and say, " Here you go, it's a quote on quote blanket." He tilts his head to the side but willing pulls the tarp around his shoulders. I chuckle when he gives a content hum.
With a sudden yawn he lays back down and snuggles into the tarp. I stay with him the rest of the day. We didn't really talk though, he told me his throat was sore. When night came I got up to go home, but Wolf wouldn't let me. "Rayn-" He whined giving me his adorable puppy dog eyes. " - please stay, don't want to be alone..." In a moment of weakness I compiled. I walked over to the crook of his neck and snuggled against him. " Goodnight my stupid friend." I sigh. His response was just gentle snores.
