"And this is your room."
Chayse opens her door, her eyes skimming around the room. They stop on every little thing in her small dorm. "Wow," she murmurs, running her fingers gently over the dresser. She turns around, looking at me with a smile. "This is...beautiful. I've never had a room all to myself before. At home I sleep on the couch in the living room."
I shrug, sitting on her bed and saying, "Well, you've got a dorm all to your own now. You can unpack your bag here, if you like." Chayse smirks and opens her bag, revealing a loaf of bread. "That's all I have." I laugh as she sets the bread in one of the drawers. "Perfect," she giggles.
Chayse sits beside me on her bed and I decide to tease her a bit. I drop my head and raise my eyebrows. "Well, look here, I've not even known you a day and we're already in bed together," I say with a sly grin. To my surprise she doesn't blush. Instead Chayse just whips her hair out of her eyes and smirks back. "Looks like we are. What would you like to do here, Will?" Her hands creep closer to me and I feel my face get hot. She laughs, falling back on the bed. Instead of giving her the glory of making me flush, I decide to make it worse.
I fall back beside her, leaning over top of her. She freezes mid-giggle and I drop my head just above hers. "You don't get the last laugh, sweetheart," I purr, "I do." Chayse surprises me once again by grabbing the inside of my elbows, cooing back, "Bring it, honey."
I shrug. "Gladly." I give her a toothy grin, showing off my sharp teeth. She grins back, revealing her fangs. Chayse says, "You pull out yours, I've still got mine. But I'll have you know that in vampirian culture, it's considered very casual to have a taste of your mate's blood." I freeze. Of course I know that's true, but I can't believe she said it.
The idea of vampires biting people for blood is simply because blood is high in everything they need. A vampire's teeth, as they dig into their victim's flesh, secrete an oil that numbs the pain. However they can choose how much to let out. If they want their victim to suffer, they let out very little or none. If they want their victim to feel nothing, they secrete a lot of the oil. And if they're doing something like Chayse stated--biting your mate during sex, or giving the Vampire's Kiss--they add in a hormone that not only lets them feel virtually no pain, but also gives them a sort of high, causing them to get a similar reaction to what alcohol gives. So...a vampire bite during sex means you go a little crazy. And it's considered the best possible feeling in the world.
Also, you do not joke about biting someone like that. That's, like, the main rule in vampirian culture.
I squeak out, "Chayse, you don't say that!" She cocks a brow. "Why not? I mean, take a look at where we are right now--on my bed. Why not take a little bite? I bet you taste good," she teases. I sit up and reply, "That's not something you joke about! Saying it is meaning it, Chayse. You don't joke about the Vampire's Kiss." She crosses her arms. "Sorry, I didn't know. I won't say it again." I nod. "Good," I sigh.
Chayse looks over at me, giving an amused look. She says withe a smile, "Hey Will, what do you do for fun around here?" I grin, extending my hand. "I'll show you." We start to leave when I hear a low rumble. Chayse blushes dark red. "Sorry, I just...haven't eaten today," she says, blushing even darker. I grin and shrug, saying, "Then we'll make a pit stop. They have blood here from donors. You'll have plenty to drink." Her eyes light up behind her glasses and I lead her to the cafeteria.
I watch as Chayse speaks to one of the cafeteria chefs, Lauren Gingritch. The woman looks her over and lets her back in the kitchen where the blood is kept. Lauren waves me over. "Will," she whispers, "that girl has severe blood withdrawal. She doesn't get nearly enough human blood in her diet. Since you're watching over her, make sure she returns once every four hours to get a pint of blood. It'll stay like that for the next week, then she can go on a regular schedule like the other vampire students. Okay?" I nod. "Alright. I'll make sure she comes, even if I have to drag her here," I chuckle. She pats my back and I walk to the kitchen to stay with Chayse.
I stop in the doorway. She stands there, talking to one of the nurses. She's calm and serene, though a thirst sparks in her eyes every time she glances at the blood bags hanging around the room. The nurse finally lets her pass and brings out a bag of crimson liquid. She shows Chayse the proper way to bite a blood bag and she takes it eagerly, puncturing the plastic. Chayse closes her eyes and a the most joyous look I've ever seen crosses her face. She looks so...happy. I lean against the door frame and cross my arms, watching her with a soft smile. Chayse sucks in a breath through her nose, letting her shoulders drop as she swallows mouthfuls of blood. She looks good.
My mind catches on the though. She looks good. I've never actually thought that about a girl. I mean, yeah, some are pretty, but...she just...something's different about it. She makes something in my head spin violently, and I don't want it to stop. Chayse lets go of the now-empty bag and the nurse takes it. Chayse walks over to me and says, "Now what?" I swallow. There's a bit of red on the corner of her lip. She catches me looking and gives a sheepish grin, licking the blood from her lip. "So what was it you wanted to do?" she asks. I bite both of my lips and manage out, "Excuse me for a moment." I walk out of the kitchen and down the hall to the boy's dorms. I pass a friend. He calls, "Hey Will! What's up? I go to walk past him, but he stops me and glances down. "Dude," he says with a growing smile, "what were you doing?" I close my eyes and feel a blush in my cheeks. He laughs, letting go, and shakes his head. "Go straighten up, man. She's waiting on you, I bet!" I rush to my room with him laughing behind me.
Fuck.
