Chayse: Why Are You Still Here?

I had one of those weird dreams last night. The kind that you know couldn't possibly be true, but they just feel so...real. The ones that are almost scary. That's the kind I had.

I was sitting, alone, in my room. Suddenly the window flew open at the same time as the door did. Wind sliced through the air, sending my papers amiss across my desk and onto the floor. I wrapped my blanket up around me in fear; of what, I don't know.

I looked up and saw a shadow cast across the hardwood floor beneath my feet. I followed the darkness across the ground until it froze. Then I looked up. And right in front of me was a figure with tight grey skin and no eyes, white hair slicked back across its head. Blood dripped down it's chin, dribbling out of it's mouth. A long-fingered hand slowly lifted to my chin, cupping my face. The fingers reach my temples as they squeeze my head. I can feel the heat of its musty, blood-laced breath as it croaks, "Chayse."

I  open my eyes, my heart in my throat. There's a face in front of mine, but it isn't a terrifying creature. It's a face with closed eyes, a face that has a soft smile on it as they dream. "Chayse," Will murmurs again, snuggling up against me. His body rises and falls slowly with his sleeping breaths. I smile and let out a relieved sigh. It's quickly wiped away, however, as I come to another conclusion.

Why is Will next to me in bed?!

First, I check to make sure he's still wearing clothes. Thankfully, we both are. I touch his shoulder and his dark eyes open slowly. "Hm..? Oh, good morning, Chayse." he mumbles, rubbing his eyes like a kid. I ask, 'Why are you asleep next to me?"

Will pauses, looking down at my bed. Then he answers, "Last night you were really tired. I was worried about you making it here on your own, so I took you home. Then you changed into your sleep clothes and climbed under the covers like you were drunk. I went to leave and you whined for a solid two minutes for me to stay. So I did."

I let my head fall in my hands. "I don't remember any of that," I moan. Will rubs my back and replies, "Hey, it's okay. I made sure we didn't do anything...not good." I nod and let my head loll forward. "Ugh, thank you. That means more than you know," I sigh.

Will stands up, stretching. He says, "I left and grabbed some clothes, even though you got pretty ticked at me. And, ah...that's really it. I'm going to get dressed now. Christmas holiday is coming up soon, you know." I sigh; I know. Winter is vampire heaven. The sun is always blocked by clouds, people are all huddled away in their houses...nothing's there to bother them. And human strays? Well, they give us lunch.

I stand up and grab a white blouse, sliding on an orange vest and a pair of light blue shorts. "Let's go get breakfast," I suggest, and Will nods. He extends his hand and I take it. We walk to the cafeteria together and I let out an unintentional sigh and quickly blush, causing Will to give a chuckle. Instead of walking out my dorm door like a normal person, he flips me back against the door and pins me there. "Enjoying a bit of hand-holding? More must make you...crazy," Will murmurs seductively, tracing his fingernail along my collarbone. I give him a look. I whisper, "Don't start this now. We have friends to meet, and I don't want them to think I'm some ditz. A minute in here alone with you and I'm gone."

Will laughs darkly, leaning even closer. I can feel his hot breath on my neck as he gets closer to me. I let him, leaning into the kiss, but he teases me by dodging and instead kissing my neck. I can feel his smile against my skin.

Gently--and with a lot of self restraint--I grab Will's shoulders and push him back. "Ditz," I remind him with a chatter of laughter. He pecks me on the cheek. "I think it's cute," he says, grabbing my hand and walking out the door.

And now I'm blushing like crazy.
