[A young woman discovers that her family isn't at all that they seem to be. She confronts her father about it.]
Script:
*stares at the far left corner of the room in fear from centre stage*
"I-I didn't mean to... I was just fetching some water from the well as you said."
*scrambles back to stage right*
"Father please, it was a mistake. I-I didn't mean to bump into James."
*gets emotional, brings hands up to chest*
"No no no, please Father... please don't do this. You can't lock me up here in the attic- you just can't!"
*starts hurriedly walking towards downstage left* (aka doors)
"Who will take care of the library downstairs? Who will clean your robes?"
*looks frantic* *waves hands around*
"Father wait! No please don't close the door!"
*reaches out* *flinches from non-existent glare strained towards her*
"I-I'm sorry for defying you... But Father-"
*stumbles back in shock of the non-existent door slam*
"Oh my oh my. What has the world brought me to...
*starts walking around the room doing random hand gestures of distress*
"I follow his rules, his words. I rarely go outside... I dress in rags, I sleep like a hag. And what do I get in return? Nothing..."
*collapses on the floor* "Nothing." *a few seconds pass*
"I know that I was forbidden to talk to people while I'm out doing an errand for father but..."
*shakes head before stealing myself*
"It's just too much. I still have a life to live after all. Besides, I've been suspicious of all this for a while now."
*gets up and walks towards stage right where the window is before stopping*
"I am sorry father, but I've had enough. It's time I meet James to find out the truth. The whole truth."
*exits*
End Scene
This was a monologue inspired by a book I read once, though, I'm not sure what the book is anymore. It's not perfect but I was rather proud of this when I wrote it.
Here's the context that I had written for this monologue previously:
[Lia was kidnapped when she was young. She is living with her kidnapper thinking he is her dad. One day, she met a guy named James who recognized her as his sister. Lia goes back home and finds out that her father has found about her encounter with James. This monologue is based on Lia's confrontation with her dad.]Hope you enjoyed!
