It was the next day and I was as prepared as I ever would be. Dark Pit was surprisingly helpful, he knew what areas I needed to hone in on for my apology.
Lunch came around and it was time to find the guys (well, mostly just Kayla). I figured they were where we always sat, in the cafeteria around the left wall. I spotted them in the usual spot conversing, but Kayla was nowhere to be found?
Ah, there she is, running in with her notebook? She never brings her notebook to lunch! Why would she even bother-
I'm getting off topic. I took a few breaths and walking over to them... slowly so I could sort out my thoughts.
"Uh hey guys..." I started, cringing at how loud I was.
They snapped their heads at the sound of my voice and their mouths were agape. They were frozen until Willow finally spoke up.
"O-Oh hey Y/N!" Willow exclaimed, nudging at the others to smile and nod. All of them complied, except Kayla.
"Hey Kayla..." I started "About that day... I uh..." Everything Dark Pit had told me had escaped my brain for a second. Thank god I regained the information quickly.
"Look, Kayla, I'm sorry. I was just surprised and that turned to anger for some reason. I just kinda... spoke what came to mind first. Honestly, I thought in the moment you were trying to get revenge on me. So... I'm sorry. Sorry that I exploded at you, sorry that I kept that secret, and sorry that this apology took so damn long."
"..." Everyone in the small group was back to being frozen. This time Mia broke out of it first.
"Y'know sometimes we really hate you Y/N. We spent our past five lunches planning on getting Kayla to apologize and making sure she does it right. We had five brains! You had one! We were going to continue planning today and you just waltz in and apologize so effortlessly?! Damnit Y/N!" Mia exclaimed, trying not to laugh around the end of her monologue.
...That explains why they had Kayla's notebook with them. Everyone started to laugh at Mia's words, myself included. What a coincidence! In hindsight, it made sense. Kayla hates losing friends, I've been with her long enough to know. After we all regained our composure to some degree, I spoke.
"Well I had two brains help me but still..."
We were all smiling like idiots now, including Kayla.
"Kayla, you know you still haven't responded to my beautiful apology that I beat you to."
Kayla started laughing. "Do I need to answer it? Sit down Y/N, it's been awhile. Well, if you call a week a while."
It was almost like how it used to be. The only difference is that I was much more immersed in the conversation than normal.
Eventually the bell rang.
"Y/N, you better tell us what you were arguing about tomorrow. We're waiting for the details" Lauren said smirking at me.
"Uh... Yeah. That can be arranged." I replied, not even thinking. Wait, what have I done? What did I sign up for? Oh no...
Dark Pit is gonna have fun helping me with this.
