At lunch, I ignored the obvious stares in my direction from my friends and Keith who were on the other side of the cafeteria. I held my lunch that was in a paper sack in my hand. I scanned the cafeteria, looking for a spot to sit. That's when, two boys approached me. One was wearing a letterman jacket and jeans and he had short, sandy blonde hair and round blue eyes. He was very tall, and he looked older than a high school student. The other was wearing a long sleeved flannel shirt with faded jeans and he was about a foot shorter than the other one with dark curly hair and green eyes.

"Hey Charly, I heard you and Keith broke up. Want to go to the movies on Friday?" The guy wearing the letterman jacket asked me.

"Um, I don't know you." I answered him.

"Cody Reed. The quarterback of the football team." He said proudly. "We've had a few classes together in the past. Want to go?"

"I'm sorry, Cody." I told him as compassionately as I could. "It's too soon. I just broke up with him on Friday. Thank you for the offer though. See you around?" I smiled at both of them and I walked passed them.

"It's okay, see you Charly" Cody said.

"You should have asked if you could hook her up with a joint first," His shorter friend told him with a laugh.

"Shut up, Nick. She doesn't do drugs!" He scolded his friend. I took a deep breath and I continued walking. I wouldn't have known what to say if I had turned back to them.

I spotted Ella, heading towards a table and helping a boy she was walking with. He had problems walking on his own and he had to have two metal walker sticks that had holsters that slipped into his arms so that they could help him walk. He had short light brown hair and brown eyes with a mouth that seemed to have trouble talking. It slid over to the side as he talked to Ella. Did he have problems with his speech too? Ella was laughing with him as she helped him towards a table of kids that I didn't recognize. I walked over to them.

Ella helped the boy sit down and I approached her. She stood up straight and stared at me,

"What do you want?" She asked, confused.

"Can I sit with you today, Ella?" I asked her. She looked around, searching for my ex friends.

"Where's your posse? Is this some kind of cruel joke?" She demanded. I shook my head.

"No." I told her. "I stopped hanging out with them. I don't need them." Ella looked at the table with the other kids sitting. There were two girls and a boy. One of the girls had beautiful long burgundy hair that curled passed her shoulders with pretty sky blue eyes, the other had dark long blonde hair that was in a side braid and grayish blue eyes behind black rimmed glasses. The boy that was sitting on the other side was smaller and skinny with dark brown curly hair that curled behind his ears and big round puppy dog brown eyes.

I smiled politely at them and they stared at me in awe.

"Aren't you Charly Walker?" The red haired one asked me. I nodded.

"Yeah. What's your name?"

"I'm Penny." She said.

"And I'm Izzy." Said the dark blonde haired one.

"I'm Clark." Said the brown haired boy.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you. I'm Charly." I told them with a smile. "And who's this?" I looked down at the boy who had trouble walking.

"I'm Will. We met before, Charly." The boy said. His speech was a little slurred but his words came out clear.

"Oh, well I had sort of an accident. Nice to see you again, Will." I said, smiling at him. Ella was still staring at me and she had a shocked expression on her face. "So, can I sit with you guys?"
