The sun shines through my window blinding me in light. I groan as I stumble out of bed and put on a forest green top and jean shorts. I brush my hair into a tight braid on the side of my head to get the brown waves out of my face. From the kitchen I hear Prim is already up and making breakfast. Good she must be ready for her first day of high school, Prim has been excited to go for months. Me? I'm terrified of high school. I hate being around people I don't know, I'm better alone in the woods.
As I head downstairs I smell burning toast. Let's just say Prim is an even worse cook than me.
"Prim, what in the world are you trying to do? Burn down the house?" I ask opening a few windows.
She smiles a little knowing I'm joking. "Sorry Kat, I really didn't mean to!"
"It's fine little duck." I say putting some new bread in the toaster.
Me and Prim are really close for siblings. I guess I've been taking care of her for so long that she's almost like my own daughter now. I can't believe she's already going into high school! I'm a senior so I'll be graduating this spring, most of the people in my grade will be going off to college but not me. I need to stay here and take care of Prim.
These thoughts flow through my mind as we walk to school. Once we get there I wrap Prim in a hug.
"If you need anything just come get me okay?" I say.
She nods. "I will Katniss don't worry, I'll be fine!" With that she skips off through the doors.
I sigh and walk to the doors for my grade as I mumble to myself. "Welcome to the day of hell."
