Amber smacked against the asphalt with a moan of pain. Her hazel eyes stared up at the greying sky with black dots swimming in her vision. She heard the slam of a car door and then a sea of red hair obstructed her view of the sky.
It took her a few heartbeats to notice that a girl with pale skin and wide blue eyes was shouting something at her, "Oh my gosh, are you okay?" she shouted at Amber while shaking her shoulders.
Amber swallowed thickly, flashes of the accident replayed in her mind as she laid on the asphalt. Another shake brought her to full consciousness and she immediately sat up only to let out a cry of pain.
"Please tell me you're not going to die!" The younger girl said with a shaky voice.
Amber looked down at the cause of pain, her forearm, it was bent all weird, "That's not normal..." she croaked, her hazel eyes watering in pain.
"Oh God," the younger girl said as she looked at Amber's arm in disgust, "It's broken, oh God. Billy!" she shouted and stood up and stormed away from Amber, who was still sitting the asphalt, a little dazed.
Amber didn't even take notice of the pair of boots in front of her till a pair of fingers snapped in front of her face causing her to look up at a tan guy, around her age. He was scowling at her and had his arms crossed over his chest. She could only assume this was Billy.
"Hey, girl. That was really fucking stupid to walk in the middle of the damn street." he snarled at her.
Amber furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and anger and stood up. She swayed a bit before holding her ground, her head feeling much clearer than before, "Me? In the middle of the street? I was on the side dipshit! You're the one who hit me with your fucking car!" she snapped back at him.
Billy let out a huff of annoyance and glanced back at his hood, that was all dented in from her slamming into it. He nodded a couple times, "Whatever," he growled and looked back at his dented hood again, "You're gonna pay for that right?"
Amber's mouth dropped. The audacity of this guy! "No, I'm not going to pay for that, you're the one who hit me!"
Billy bared his teeth at her and gave her such a wicked glare that she was almost positive that he was part wolf or something. She watched his hands curl into fists before he took a step closer to her and stared her down, his upper lip starting to curl in primal anger. Billy had a wild look in his eye before the girl from earlier tugged on his arm.
"Let it go, Billy!" she shouted, "Let's just go home!"
Billy only glanced at the girl for a second before answering, "Get back in the car Max, or I swear to God-"
"Listen, Billy?" Amber began, holding her broken arm to her chest, "Yeah, my arm is broken and I don't have enough time to sit around and discuss how I'm not paying for that shitty car of yours, okay?" she snapped, "I'm assuming we go to the same school, so just meet me by the gym after school?" she gave him a fake smile before turning on her heel and quickly walking away from him.
Amber heard him mutter some curses at her before kicking his tire and then slamming the door behind him and booking it out of there. She let out a sigh of relief when his sky blue Camaro raced over the hill and out of her sight. With her adrenaline and anger diminishing, the pain in her arm seemed to increase ten-fold. Amber let out a pant and walked to the nearest phone booth, knowing very well that she would probably wouldn't make it all the way home.
With her good hand, she opened the phone booth and quickly dialed her home phone and brought it up to her ear, hoping her Godmother was home. The phone rang for a good while and no one picked up.
Of course.
Amber would have called Charlie's house, but Charlie's parents were most likely out already if they had Lucas watching Erica. So, that left her with one other choice. Work. Amber dialed the police station and on the second ring Flo picked up the phone.
"Hawkins PD, how may I help you?" Flo asked in a monotoned voice.
"Hi, Flo. It's Amber Henderson, I need someone to drive me to the hospital, I broke my arm," she said quickly.
"What?" Flo asked, and Amber could hear the alarm in her voice, "How on earth did that happen-Oh I'll get the Chief! He sent Callahan and Powell out earlier. Oh hang tight honey, where are you?" Flo asked, and Amber could hear the rustling of papers and the sound of a chair being pushed out of the way.
Amber looked around for a street side, "Uh, I'm like a mile away from the high school, where it gets really hilly. I still am not very good with the street names yet."
"Chief!" Flo shouted over the line, "You gotta go pick Amber up on Maple! She broke her arm!" There was a slam of a door and Amber heard a deep rumble over the line, "be there in five, tell her to just stay put," Hopper said and then Flo put the phone back up to her face, "He'll be there in five. Don't go anywhere."
Amber nodded, "yeah, I won't. Thanks, Flo," and she hung up the phone.
No later than five minutes, Hopper's police cruiser was pulling up next to her, and he rolled down the window.
"What the hell happened, kid?" he asked as he leaned over to open her door.
Amber struggled to get in and threw her backpack in the back before sitting down. "Some asshole hit me with his car," she muttered while trying to buckle herself in.
"Who?" Hopper asked as he started the car and drove to the hospital.
"Billy," she said with a scowl.
