the beginning of this chapter will be held in Billy's perspective and then Hopper's, just to spice things up.

As always enjoy; there's some language cause ya know it's billy

Also, I'm making Jim get home to el much later than in the show for the purpose of this plot, so just a heads up if you're confused.

**BILLY**

Billy was not surprised that Amber passed out in his car. She was currently slumped against the passenger window with her braid practically falling out.

He tore his gaze away from her and slowed his car down, realizing that he had no clue where the hell she lived. He definitely was not going to be her to his place, no way. Billy rolled his eyes at the thought of that.

His car rolled to a stop and he sighed, not really knowing what to do. He leaned over in his seat and shook her shoulder.

"Amber," he said loudly, "hey get up."

She didn't respond.

"Great," Billy scoffed and then a pair of cop lights flashed behind him, "oh you have got to be fucking kidding me."

He watched through his rearview mirror as some cop got out. He was wearing a jacket and a hat, a cigarette was hanging loosely from his lips. The cop arrived at Billy's window and tapped on the glass with his knuckles prompting Billy to roll down the window.

Billy rolled down his window, his lips pressed together in a thin line, "can I help you?"

The cop scoffed, "have you been drinking tonight?"

"No," Billy lied through his teeth, narrowing his eyes.

"Kid," the cop began but noticed Amber passed out in the passenger seat, "is that Amber Henderson?"

Billy looked at her over his shoulder and then back at the cop, "yeah, why?"

"What the hell are you doing with her?" the cop asked, starting to get worried.

"Taking her home, obviously, so wanna let me go-" Billy squinted his eyes at the cops name tag, "Hopper?"

Hopper laughed bitterly before standing to his full height, "no way in hell, get out of the car, kid."

"What the hell?" Billy argued, his hands tightening around the steering wheel, "I'm not even drunk!"

Hopper clenched his jaw, looking at Amber again. He saw this kid as a major red flag, "I'll take her home. Open your passenger door."

"Why?" Billy argued, "how do I know you're not some sick asshole that's gonna do something to her?"

Hopper laughed, "yeah like hit her with my car?"

Billy narrowed his eyes.

"Yeah, not so slick, open the damn door. I know about you Billy and I know Amber. She's a sweet girl who doesn't need some guy like you making her suffer even more. She's been through more than enough," Hopper said.

Billy scoffed, the nerve of this damn guy, "fine, take her I really don't care. You don't have to worry about me 'making Amber suffer' she's not even my type."

**HOPPER**

Hopper rolled his eyes and walked around to the passenger side of the car and easily picked Amber up and shut the door with his boot. Billy stuck his head out the window and flipped him off before speeding away, music blaring.

Hopper sighed and carried Amber to his cruiser and set her in the front seat. He checked his watched and pinched the bridge of his nose, he was so late for El. His gaze set on Amber, he wasn't sure why but his inner 'dad' always came out when he was around her. Hopper would never admit it to anyone, but Amber sort of reminded him of his late daughter Sarah.

He got into his car and drove Amber home, he kept a close eye on her as he drove her to her house. Hopper raised an eyebrow when he saw Ms. Henderson standing in the front lawn looking very worried, especially now that she saw him coming.

Hopper parked his car and got out only to be greeted by Ms. Henderson, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Oh Chief Hopper, is Amber okay? Dusty said she went to some party. Oh, I'm just so worried about her all the time, she's so fragile," Ms. Henderson cried, very overwhelmed.

Hopper opened the passenger door and easily picked Amber up, "she's fine, and don't worry. I keep a close eye on her, she's a good kid."

Ms. Henderson opened the door and let Hopper in, "her room is next to Dusty's, and thank you. That means the world to me."

Hopper nodded and walked into Amber's room and set her down on her bed, "okay, I'll leave you to do the rest," he said with a joking smile, knowing Amber would be very hungover in the morning.

Ms. Henderson smiled and wiped her eyes, "thank you so much again, you're a great role model for her Chief."

Hopper smiled, "it's no problem, have a good night Ms. Henderson," he said and left their house. He was curious to why Amber was with Billy in the first place, he knew that kid meant trouble. As much as he didn't want to pry in Amber's life, he knew he would try and keep her away from him.

-------

Amber woke the next morning feeling god awful, she felt like she had the worst case of the flu. She sat up in her bed, rubbing her temples, the events of last night extremely foggy, she couldn't remember anything after chugging all that beer.

She glanced around her room and raised an eyebrow, how did she even get home?

A soft knock on her door caught her attention and Dustin opened it slightly, a shit-eating grin on his face.

"What?" Amber asked her voice hoarse.

"You got busted," he said folding his arms over his chest.

Amber groaned falling back on her bed, "what happened?"

Dustin shrugged walking over to her bed and laying down next to her, "apparently, Chief Hopper found you in Billy Hargrove's car passed out, at least that's what mom said. News travels fast when you're in the gossip club around here."

"Oh no, Billy Hargrove out of all people, and Hopper saw me like that. Geez, I'm so fired," she said with a sigh, covering her face with her hands.

Dustin patted her shoulder, "there there, Amber," he said counseling her but trying to suppress a snicker.

Suddenly the door opened to reveal her aunt, she held up a glass of water and the aspirin bottle, "I brought this for you, Amber. Also, breakfast is ready if you're up for eating," she said gently.

Amber sighed, feeling guilt roll over her in waves, "aunt Claudia, I'm so sorry, I really feel bad about what I did last night-"

"Honey, it's okay, I'm just glad you're safe," she said with a smile.

Amber nodded and stood up, "I guess I could try and eat some breakfast then," she said changing the subject.

Dustin sprang to his feet, "if you don't finish your pancakes I will gladly eat them!"

Amber laughed, "be my guest."
