I smile at the last message she sent me a few days ago. Eventually we'd seen each other again at a whole record thing or whatever and forgave each other, we've been texting ever since. What she doesn't know is that I came home to visit my family, and I'm going to surprise her. I knock on the door, and no one answers, but I can hear music. She probably can't hear me. I open the door, and go to where the music is coming from her room. She's not in there. The bathroom door, down the hall is slightly open. I creak it open and I don't see her, until I see her leaning against a wall, her eyes closed. For a minute I just think she's asleep. I smile for a minute.I notice a small bottle of pills on the ground next to her, and my smile fades. I know why she didn't hear me knock, because she can't hear me at all.
Because she killed herself.
I choke back a sob, realizing her music is playing Gone Too Soon, by Simple Plan, the song for this situation. Tears start streaming down my face. I kneel down right next to her, and pull up the sleeve of her black sweatshirt, and I let tears drip onto her wrist, covered in old scratches and new bloody ones. I lift it up at kiss it, wishing that her eyes would open and that she would smile at me one more time. But her skin is cold, and her eyes stay shut. She looks peaceful. Her hair is extremely messy, over on one side.
I kiss her cheek, and her nose, and her lips. Her skin is freezing, and I brush her hair back, away from her face. We were just friends when we met again, but the spark has always been there. I wipe my eyes, as my vision has been blurred by tears.
I pick up my phone, dialing the number of the only person I could talk to about this.
"C-Cal?" I stammer, hoping my best friend will know what to do.
"Luke what's wrong? You sound upset." He asks, concerned. I can imagine his brow furrowing as he listens for my answer.
"W-well I went to visit Skye l-like I said and..." I trail off, not wanting to say it.
"And what? What happened Luke?" Calum asks. I feel bad, he's worried.
"She-She's gone." I can tell Calum doesn't says by his Huh? from the phone.
"She killed herself." I say, placing a hand on hers, and intertwining my fingers with hers, even though she'll never feel it.
"She killed herself, Calum. She's never coming back. Im never gonna get to hear her voice again, or see the way her eyes light up when she smiles, and I'm never going to get to kiss her again, or wake up next to her." The color drains from my face as I punch the wall, leaning against it, trying to feel physical pain, anything to numb the emotional pain, that I'm feeling. I slam my forehead against the wall, groaning as a headache forms.
"Luke calm down. You need to call a hospital and Tim and whoever can help you with this."
"I can't do that." I say flatly, running a hand through my hair, for the third time in the past 20 minutes.
"Why not?" Calum inquires gently.
"Because I'll never get to see her again! I'm never going to see the girl I'm madly in love with, the girl that I would take a bullet for, the most beautiful girl in the world, unless it's in a coffin. After that she's gone forever, and I'll never get to hold her hand or see her or anything!" I yell, my voice cracking, as I slam my fist against the cool counter of the bathroom.
"Luke. If you love her that much you have to call a hospital and her father."
"Just.... do me a favor. Don't tell the other boys yet." Calum agrees and promises not to. I hang up, dialing the nearest hospital.
"Hi my um my girlfriend committed suicide and I don't know what to do please help. I love her more than anything in the world, and she's gone and I just-"
"What's the address?" The lady asks, seriously. I choke back more tears and give it to her, hanging up. I call Tim, afraid of what's going to happen.
"Hi Luke, I haven't heard from you in a while, how have you been?" He greets me cheerfully, and I almost roll my eyes. How is it possible to be cheerful right now?
"Skye's dead. She killed herself." I blurt out. The last thing I hear is a gasp before the line goes dead.
The door opens and a lady in a paramedics suit followed by a few more people and a stretcher runs into the bathroom.
"What's her name?" The lady barks at me. I flinch.
"S-Skye Hunter." I choke out, before rushing to the two men picking her up.
"Be careful with her!" I yell, and one looks at me with sad eyes. The other stops and stares right at me.
"Sir it doesn't make a difference. She's dead." He says sincerely before the lift up the stretcher, bringing it down. I hear Tim's voice yelling. I lean against the door, and slide down.
She's dead. She's gone and she's never coming back. She died thinking you didn't want to be with her. She died never knowing that she was the girl you some day wanted to propose to.
She died thinking all the wrong things.
