First glance

Derek and Mark head downstairs to eat breakfast before they head to school. Derek is searching in the cereal cabinet for his favorite cereal until he sees that it's not there, Derek then yells "Hey Ma, where's my muesli?" Mark chuckles, he just can't figure out how or why Derek eats that stuff, "Dude seriously how can you eat that stuff anyway? It's like the forest floor was thrown into your bowl with some soy milk" Derek rolls his eyes at Mark "Cause I like it and it's really good for you and it's beneficial"

Derek's mom, Carolyn Shepherd then walks into the kitchen, "What did you say sweetie, did you want me to pack your lunch for today?" she says as she puts her hand on his cheek, Derek smirks "No Ma, I'm turning seventeen soon and I don't need you to baby me anymore.." she just looks at him and laughs "Oh dear I know, you know I'm just picking with you" Mark laughs at them "Damn you are such a mama's boy" Derek's smile quickly fades into a frown "Shut up Mark!"

Derek looks back at his mom "...uh anyway, do we not have anymore muesli?"

"Sorry sweetie you ate the last of it yesterday, I'll have to go get more later" She gave him a sympathetic look cause she already knew he was already not having a good day. Derek just nodded "Uh that's okay I'll just take an apple with me, we can go now Mark"

"Okay just meet me outside, I'll go crank up the car" Derek's mom hugs and kisses his cheek "You two behave today, especially you Mark, I don't wanna hear anything about you getting into any fights or making out with girls in the bathroom okay?" Mark just tries to keep himself from laughing "Sure will Ma" he heads and leaves Derek and her alone, he just kisses her cheek and is almost out the door before she stops him, "Derek.." he stops in his tracks "Yes?" he says as he turns around.

"I know today will be hard for you, just hang with Mark today but I want you to get back out there, make some friends, join a club or something, please.." Derek sighs and looks at her "I'll try" she smiles, "Thank you, love you!" he mirrors her smile, "I love you too"

After he headed out and rode with Mark to school, they both went inside to find their homeroom, "Looks like this is where we'll be this year" Derek nods "Yep"

"I bet our teacher is hot" Mark says as he's smirking at him, and Derek just smiles while laughing "Oh shut up, you're such an idiot you know that right?" Mark frowns at him "Maybe, but at least I can get all the hot chicks"

Derek laughs as they find their seat, everyone else is in their seat as well and the teacher walks in seconds before the bell rings, "Good morning, I'm mrs. Webber, and I'd like to welcome everyone to a new year at Seattle Grace highschool!" Mark turns to Derek and whispers "Isn't she the principals wife, Richard Webber?" Derek was getting ready to speak until he was interrupted "Is there something you'd like to share with your peers?" Mrs. Webber said and it looked like it was directed towards Mark, "Uh no I.."

He was talking until someone walked in, she looked to have dark golden hair that fell to her shoulders, light green eyes, she had a small petite frame, but Derek thought that she may be the most beautiful girl he's ever seen just by his first glance.
