I opened my eyes and yelled "Leave me alone!" before kicking the knife into the wall.
I ran as fast as I could down to our basement. I felt around the walls for the secret door my parents told me about. They had to have been telling the truth. I heard something click.
A door as tall as me swung open. I stumbled back. There was a huge hole where the door opened and it was dark inside. Not much could be seen. I pulled my phone out and used the flashlight.
You have no choice. It's this or a promised death. What's it gonna be?
I stepped onto the threshold. I walked until I reached a wall.
What? This can't be the end. The tunnel CAN'T end here!
I heard something scurry behind me. I whipped around just to hear laughing at my ear. I fell to my knees and felt hands grab me as I tried to roll away.
Away from what? What is happening?
I screamed and jumped up. Pressing my back against the wall, I searched for the laughing. I looked for the hands that had grabbed me. I could see nothing but black.
Then I saw her. She had long, matted, black hair that fell over her face. She was wearing a long, white nightgown.
"Evelyn, how could you leave me? Evelyn, I was scared. How could you?"
Her voice was scratchy and whining. She sounded close to tears.
I blinked and she was closer.
"Now I will take you." She whispered. She sounded angry and threatening now. I felt like she was making a promise.
I screamed and shut my eyes. When I opened them again, she was gone and I was lying on the floor. I can't remember who she was. I can't remember who I am.
I can't remember. I can't remember. I can't remember...
-----
When I woke my head felt like heck. I was groggy and frightened.
Evelyn...
"Hello?"I whispered into the dark.
Silence. Nothing.
Then voices. Not whispery scratchy voices, but actual voices. I heard them talking and the blackness took me again.
-----
"How did she get there?" A female voice questioned.
"I still think we can't trust her." Interjected a frustrated male.
I heard a girl outburst "Oh just shut up Lyan!"
"Gosh Marcy, just stating my opinion." Lyan muttered under his breath.
Marcy huffed. "Well your opinion isn't wanted."
"Again, how did she get here?" The female voice asked again.
"We found her in the tunnels." A new male voice stated.
I opened my eyes and stared wildly at the four people around me. No check that, five. There was another male in the corner quietly.
What was going on?
