Chapter Eleven
Relax, it's almost the wedding
We were walking around the town, talking to a few towns people and catching up with each other. We passed Rochelle's house, but I didn't say anything about it nor saw her. The sun was setting, very slowly as we were walking towards the center fountain.
"So, your father says I'm making progress." Kyle said, happy with himself. I looked over at him while my hands were resting in my lap as we sat down on the edge of the fountain.
"That's great, looks like he approves of you." I laughed, putting my hand in the water and swirling it around. Kyle watched as I did so.
"He approved of me on day one." He insisted. I snorted a laugh and agreed with him.
"Yea, I guess your right about that." We stopped talking for awhile and just listened to the village around us and soaking everything in. A couple kids were laughing nearby, as they started to dance some kind of dance. Kyle looked up at me, smiling evilly.
"Ma' lady," He said, holding out his hand for me to take. I giggled slightly as I grabbed it and he looked over my shoulder at someone, nodding his head. Music started playing behind me as he continued to dance. He was putting a jump to all his movements, making it impossibly difficult to keep my strict composure.
The towns' people were all huddling, joining in with us as we all danced happily. This seemed like an occurring situation. When we get married we might as well make this a monthly celebration.
"Lady Jane looks so pretty mommy!" I heard a small voice say off in the distance. I instantly let go of Kyle, leaving him confused. I turned around to look for the source. A small girl with blond dirty hair and dark blue eyes was looking at me in awe. I ran up to her, picked her up off her feet and continued to dance with her.
"You look very pretty too, young one." I said, twirling her around in the air. She laughed loudly and screamed with excitement. I looked over at Kyle to see him holding a young girl too, dancing around the fountain. Soon enough, the whole village joined in on our little party. The sun was going down and we had been dancing with everyone!
The old baker came out eventually with fresh hot goodies, passing them out freely to the people around the fountain as they danced. The younger looking brunette came out with fresh cold lemonade and everyone seemed to contribute something, it truly opened my eyes to see how kind my village was. The whole plan of my attitude change was, for now, forgotten. Eventually I took a seat by the end of the whole dance, waiting for Kyle to be done as well.
Rochelle came up and sat by me, causing me to jump up a little. I wasn't expecting to see her, yet I was glad I did. She looked the exact same as last time and her eyes were open brightly.
"Lady Jane." She said, shyly. She was uncertain if she was allowed to talk to me in public. I smiled politely at her, looking for Kyle before looking back at her.
"Rochelle, fancy seeing you here... how have you been?" I asked, turning to the side a little so I could make eye contact with her while she spoke.
"Good, I managed to tidy up one of Abigail's dolls and plan on selling it at the auction on Sunday." I nodded my head at her, glad to hear she was doing so well.
"I'm glad to hear that, I haven't really seen anyone for awhile." She nodded her head but smiled brightly.
"The wedding is in a couple day's are you ready?" I felt my heart drop a little bit.
"I suppose so; I'm honestly trying not to think about it to tell you the truth." She nodded her head and looked a little guilty.
"I bet you're going to look amazing," I laughed a little, looking back down to the gravel underneath my feet. "Is it because of Neville?" My head snapped up to her, confused.
"Don't worry, he is my cousin and couldn't not tell me... we tell each other everything." I stayed silent, not wanting to deny or agree with what she said. I looked up at Kyle as he continued to dance with some girl.
"You know, not saying you won't go through with it but I have this small little cabin on the out skirts of town, by my place sort of," I looked back over to her as she continued to talk some more. "You and Neville could live in there, hide out and run away from your current duty as Lady." I looked up at her shocked.
"You would help hide us like that?" I whispered to her, she slowly nodded her head.
"Everyone deserves to be happy, right? I'm sure your parents would be mad, send out a search party for you, but eventually they would have to get back to their duty, or just hand it down to Kyle anyways. Besides, I haven't seen my cousin this happy in the longest time." I was looking into her eyes, waiting for her to take everything back and tell me it was all a joke.
"Please, don't go through with this... he loves you like crazy. I don't know how long it will be until he comes back so just... please. He left for you!" She whispered. I felt my eyes start to get watery again.
"Well, he shouldn't have left in the first place and if he isn't back within the next two days, I'm going through with the wedding." She looked at me, with sad eyes as she nodded her head. I took a deep breath and looked over to see Kyle walking towards us with a smile on his face.
"I'm sorry, Rochelle, it's just how it has to be." I whispered before standing up and meeting Kyle halfway with a false smile on my face. I didn't want him to ask questions about Rochelle, or what we were talking about.
"I knew this would cheer you up, Lady." He said, in a weird accent. I forced to laugh a little bit but he grabbed my elbow and dragged me back towards the castle.
We started walking back to the castle, taking the scenic route through the trees and small mountains. It was silent, not needing to say any words of any kind. We both had a great night.
Kyle took my hand and looked over at me, holding my gaze. "I should tell you something, but don't interrupt me alright? I'm royalty after all." He joked around, I nodded my head slowly, kind of confused but curious at the same time. A small gust of wind brought chills down my arms, but I ignored all of that.
"I'm sorry for being mad at you for the last week, it's just... you haven't been acting normal," I nodded my head, silently agreeing with him. "I think, things between us really haven't been normal," I gave him a blank stare, in my mind, wanting to yell at him and tell him to get his hands off of me and leave me alone, that I was all Neville's.
"I understand that this isn't a normal situation though, and I was hoping that when I proposed to you that day, out in the woods, I thought it would help with that. Things are moving too fast, and I'm afraid." My eyes widened, he didn't want to marry me?
"What I'm about to say scares me, because I haven't felt this way in a long time. I never planned on falling for you Jane, but I have." My heart picked up its pace for a couple minutes at the kind words. Do I wait for Neville, is he really coming back? I don't want to wait forever; I didn't want to wait at all. What compelled me to do what I did next, wasn't my heart, it wasn't my mind, it was a completely I'm-caught-up-in-the-moment kind of situation and I couldn't take them back if I wanted to.
Although, what I said I kind of felt, I knew one day I could make this work, he was kind, charming and true. I knew after I said the words they were the right thing to do.
"Kyle, I love you."
