Chapter Twelve
The big day
As if on cue, the day came a lot sooner than I had imagined possible. People were going crazy, getting me ready; making sure every detail of the wedding was perfect. Kyle and I decided to be traditional; we haven't seen each other since yesterday morning. My mother was talking to the town's people while my father was helping Kyle get ready. All the servants, now done with their work, all went down to the main floor outside, waiting for my appearance. Everyone was outside, sitting in chairs or standing around. For it being an outside wedding, it sure was a perfect sunny day. It's been two months since I've last seen Neville, and I still wasn't sure if I would ever see him again.
"Darling, you look wonderful." My mother noted as she walked into my room. I was currently looking out at all the people on the lawn outside, wearing my wedding dress and watching Nova stomp her foot while she pointed her finger at her annoyed mother.
"That's how it should always be, mother." I said, nastily. From being the sweet innocent girl to the one who snaps at everything, there was no word for what I was being lately. I was beyond rude, only nice to Kyle. Everyone stayed clear of me, including my parents. They knew better.
"Well, shall we get going my dear?" She asked, holding the door open for me so I could start walking away. I took a deep breath, feeling myself getting nervous. I tore my eyes away from the sight outside of the window and slowly made my way down to the ceremony.
These last few minutes, I will be partially what I wanted to be. I don't want to get married, sure, Kyle's a great guy, and he's just not the guy for me. My mother stopped me once we were outside the doors, waiting for the announcer to announce me. She pulled out a small little crown. It was dainty, really, but it was amazing. It had frosty diamonds all over the small intricate design; I felt my breathing stop momentarily.
"Something old, it was your grandmothers when she got married, it was her new." My mother informed me, trying to hold her tears in. In that moment, I felt a lone tear escape my eyes. My mother looked at me adoringly, before bringing her hand up and swiping it away. Little did she know, I wasn't crying because I was happy; I was crying because I didn't want this.
"Stop crying before your makeup gets ruined." She muttered while silently laughing.
"Introducing... Lady Jane." The announcer bellowed, before opening the double doors that led us outside. I took a step out, linking arms with my dad. The walkway was covered in white rose pedals, the chairs were white, there was a white walkway, and the guests were permitted to wear off-white. I looked up thought my eye lashes at Kyle. He was smiling while he looked at me.
His clean bright white suit made him look extraordinary. My heart clenched at the thought of having him as my husband within the next hour. I felt my father squeeze my arm in his as we started to slowly walk down the aisle. Everyone was smiling while they stood, some of the people were even crying while they were watching in awe. Once we finally stood in front of the walkway, my father gave me a slight kiss on the cheek, and let go of my arm while he stood back. I looked up at Kyle as I made my way to the top of the stairs. My heart was going crazy, and my mind couldn't stop for one second. When I was standing in front of him, the whole world went crazy. I took a good look at Kyle, the man I was being forced to marry.
Everyone cheered as we sealed the marriage with a kiss. It was hard to hear anything over everyone's loud nonsense of a cheer. Could they not tell I was happy? When we pulled apart Kyle hugged me, laughing at all the noise.
"I love you, Jane." He whispered into my ear. I closed my eyes and forced a small smile to appear. When we pulled away he grabbed my hands and started swinging them. My father came up to the podium and pushed us back inside. This was planned, the announcement of the royal wedding. We rushed up to the second story floor and opened the balcony doors. We stood higher than the rest, looking down at the people. Everyone was still screaming, cheering, and even crying while they looked up at us. Kyle kissed my cheek and held his arm up in victory. I felt like I was in a dream, forcing a small smile on my face, forcing laughter, forcing everything about my false mood.
