Clan of Raptors Part 1

Chaper 6

There was no time to waste that morning. They scurried out their dens for the big moment. The Deinonychus trials. Firetooth, in order to become Firespar, he has to earn his name through three trials given by the stars. Amberscale, now being sheriff of a Clan, didn't have an option. She liked it anyway.

"Tide?" She asked hearing a snore from his room. "Get up you little thorn."

"What... Oh not today I'm... busy..... with private business....." He spoke in his sleep.

"TIDE GET UP!!!!!!!" Amberscale roared.

"AHHH" Tide screamed waking up, his tail flung under Amberscale's feet.

"Ow you little-" she paused getting off Tides tail after he himself shrieked. "Come on. We gotta go!" She blasted off to see the trials, Tide behind her.

"It's about time." Jaggedclaw laughed at their contest to be first. Amberscale won with a triumphant grin upon her face. Almost a smirk for Tide who chuckled also. It took Amberscale a while to realize that she was standing on Jaggedclaw's tail. Firetooth laughed beside him. Amberscale lifted her left foot to free his tail as Tide burst in laughter and Amberscale's Triumphant grin faded almost immediately.

"Well, shall we?" Jaggedclaw blinked. Tide responded with a nod and so did Amberscale but not so soon. They called upon the rest of the clan and they came near immediately.

"Today, Firetooth, may become a part of the clan. The trials will now proceed accordingly. To show loyalty, you must show it in the battle against Fang Clan. Instead of killing a prisoner, as the normal, we will need you to do so. Meanwhile to show obedience, you must go and retrieve a Ceratopsian as food for the clan. Amberscale and Tide shall be right behind you." Jaggedclaw announced. "Let the first trial begin." The clan stormed after Firetooth and the other two, to watch as always. Amberscale felt a sense if fear and exchanged the glance with Tide. The stray Triceratops chewed the grass as the three of them crouched and came nearer to the dangerous prey item.

Firetooth signaled the two with his tail before they jumped at the Triceratops and sank in their teeth and claws tearing at the flesh. The Triceratops gave out a moan, and started to try and shake them off as the clawed and bit harder. Firetooth clawed his way to the top of it as Tide was viciously flung off, hitting a nearby tree. Firetooth bit down on the neck of the Ceratopsian, already loosing a fatal amount of blood, and twisting, trying to snap its neck as Amberscale clawed her way to help, hanging on for dear life. Firetooth twisted and jerked till it finally snapped as the Triceratops body went limp.

"Well done Firetooth." Jaggedclaw smiled.

"Thanks..." The young Deinonychus gasped for breath, realizing the feat that he and the others completed. "TIDE!" He yelled nearly forgetting and trampling over Amberscale following him to Tide. Firetooth looked at his bloody claws and used his tail to feel his pulse. "He's alive, but unconscious. Should we take him to the river?"

"I believe so." Jaggedclaw hurried to a lightly flowing river. Amberscale and Firetooth washed themselves and splashed at Tide with their tails. Tide scrambled to his feet inhaling and exhaling deeply.

"What happened?" Tide blinked rapidly and then the pain hit him. "Ow... I think I broke my tail... maybe a rib... ow..."

"It's okay Tide... Your okay." Amberscale assured him calmly. "Now let's make sure before the next trial, even though we won't help."
