Chapter 8

I wake up with the sunlight casting a shadow. I could hear my mother rant on from upstairs.

"Anira, darling! Get up, you'll be late for school." She yells from downstairs, and I moan.

What a drag, I think and get up.

I get out of my bed, trying to forget what had happened last night. I open my wardrobe and pulled out a suitable dress. It was white, with a black ribbon belt near my waist line. It was formal enough to wear at school, and I matched it with a black cardigan and black lace-up boots. I sit down in front of my mirror, and use one of the brushes I got for my birthday.

My hair was tangled, and matted. I winced a little, and swore a much unladylike word. I give up on it halfway, and decide to have a hot shower.

I strip off, and get in. I quickly wash my hair, but stay in a while. I let the hot water relax my muscles, though very quickly I was getting too hot. It was strange, because normally I have it at this heat just to warm by body up, but now it seems I am over-heating.

I get out, and dry myself off with a towel. I put on a designer bra and panties, and get into the dress, cardigan and boots. My hair was wet, and I use that to my advantage to try and get it thinner. After a lot of bad cussing and wincing, I get it into a braid. My auburn hair looked different when it was up, not to mention my greenish-brown eyes were standing out from the white.

I looked in the mirror, and stared at my eyes a little while longer. It was mostly green, a more jade green mixed with light hazel flecks. It was a nice colour to have, and I could hear something from downstairs.

"Anira! Get down now!"

I jumped, in fright and banged my head on the shower next to the mirror. I look back at the mirror and I could have sworn my eyes turned from the greenish-hazel to a liquid gold colour. It shocked me so much I screamed.

I tripped over my own feet and fell backwards, but something in me flipped me over so I landed on my hands and knees.

What the heck just happened, I think.

Your eyes aren't supposed to turn bloody gold and then back to greenish-hazel!

Sorry for my language, I get like that when I am seriously stressed.

I hear footsteps rush up the stairs and into my bathroom. I saw my mother.

"For God's sake, what happened?" My mother helped me up.

I was stressed out, I stumbled over my words. I known eye colour change, was minor but it was unnatural and it has never happened to me before.

My mother shakes me and I snap out. "Anira-Rose! Wake up! What happened?"

I built in the courage to speak. "M-My eyes...t-they-"

"Oh spit it out girl. You have a couple minutes before you have to leave, and you still have to eat breakfast." My mother scolded me.

"My eyes... Mother they changed colour!" I say, and my mother looked at me as if I was a child.

Hell, if I was in her shoes I would look at me I was a child. But I was telling the truth.

"Nonsense child. How could you come up with such ridiculous rubbish? Is this just another excuse to get out if school?" She asked me.

My mother looked at me in the eyes. I found it hard to reply. "N-No, it really did happen. Mother it was unnatural, but it was amazing!"

My mother rolled her eyes. "Yes yes, whatever you choose to believe. Now, get ready and get downstairs for breakfast before I pull out the strap."

I shuddered. "Yes, mother."

With a huff, she sasses her way out of the room.

I sigh, and get ready. I put light lipstick and make up, and then make sure my outfit suited.

I left my room, closing the door neatly before walking downstairs and into the kitchen.

I smelt French toast, and I got the toast and kissed my mum goodbye, and then set out to catch a carriage ride to school.
