(Cat above is Nettlestar)
Losttail blinked one eye open, taking in the herb-filled scent of the medicine cats' den. She was the only one there. She stood up and gave a long stretch, her tail trembling with the effort. She shook out her pelt and slipped outside, sitting down near the entrance. She began hastily grooming her pelt, licking the pieces of moss and cattails from her nest with strong, quick strokes of her tongue.
It was the day after the rogue attack. Most of the clan had recovered from their wounds but some were still resting. Rogueshadow padded across the clearing with Pebblestream, Snowwhisker and Patchpaw. Losttail smiled as the dawn patrol left. Snowwhisker had received his warrior name that morning along with his siblings, Mudleap and Mistcloud. Patchpaw and Flowerpaw were also apprenticed.
Losttail rose to her paws and made her way to the nursery. Inside, Willowhaze was lying on her side. Her belly was slightly swollen with her and Rogueshadow's first litter of kits.
"How are you feeling today, Willowhaze?" Losttail asked, placing a paw on the light gray tabby queens belly.
"I'm alright." Willowhaze mewed, shifting her wieght. "Have you seen Rogueshadow?"
"He just left on a patrol." Losttail answered.
"Rabbitstar probably wants to make sure the rogues left before the gathering." Meowed Palefur.
Losttail twitched her ears. She excused herself from the queens and headed back to the medicine den. It completely slipped her mind that the gathering was tonight. The last medicine cat meeting brought nothing new. None of the medicine cats had received anymore prophecies or omens. There had been no news in general.
Rabbitstar padded out of his den and leapt onto the Highrock and began calling out the names of cats who would be attending the gathering. Berryseed slipped out of the leader's den and met up with Losttail at the gorse tunnel.
"What were you and Rabbitstar discussing?" She asked.
Berryseed wrapped his tail around his paws. "You'll find out when the time is right."
Losttail met his gaze. What did that mean? When would be the right time?
As the cats began walking out of the clearing, Losttail felt an uneasiness growing in her. She didn't want to hear any bad news from the other clans. Through the smaller trees, the four large oaks of Fourtrees came into view.
Rabbitstar stood off to the side as ThunderClan ran into the shallow dip that held too many cats to count. Losttail followed Berryseed to the spot where the medicine cats always sat.
Rabbitstar leapt onto the Greatrock and sat next to Nettlestar. Losttail studied the Boneclan leader. His light brown tabby pelt was battered with scars and his ear had a nick in it that wasn't there before. Creekstar rose to his paw and raised his tail for silence.
"Let the gather begin." He announced. "Who will speak first?"
Plumstar rose to her paws. "I will." She padded out to stand a couple of pawsteps in front of the other leaders. "All is well in WindClan. We have two new warriors, Twitchclaw and Dogtail."
Losttail's gaze shifted over to where Twitchclaw sat with his brother, Dogtail. The black and white tom looked healed of the injuries Brackenwind had mentioned. He and his brown furred brother held their heads high as the cats called ou their names. Plumstar sat back down and Rabbitstar steppwd up.
"We also have three new warriors, Mudleap, Snowwhisker, and Mistcloud and two new apprentices, Patchpaw and Flowerpaw." He announced.
The cats called out the new warriors' and apprentices' names. Rabbitstar raised his tail for silence. "We also have suffered the death of our warrior, Snowwind, after a rogue attack yesterday."
