~Except he didn't.
Harry didn't survive "just fine" without Lou, and he most certainly wasn't fine without his childhood mate.
"I knew how close Lou and I were," Harry admits to himself as he gazes down at the rectangular table he's sitting behind during Study Hall, "but I never realized just how close we were. I never realized how absorbed I was with our relationship that I disregarded everyone else. I never realized how few friends I had until I lost the only one I had."
"And now," Emerald eyes are veiled by gray dismal clouds as he continues his somber monologue, "I am alone-completely and utterly alone. Something that this past week has taught me."
Closing his eyes, Harry reflects on the past week and how crippling the hand of loneliness has been on him.
After he had left school without permission-which he received a detention from Mr. Martinez-Jackson for and a severe scolding from his mum-he had wandered around in the storm. He had disregarded the stabs the rain attacked him with as he searched for a place to escape to-a person to seek comfort from. Without his consent, his feet had led him to Louis' house. He had snarled at the building before he stalked away, his mind racing as he debated on who to go to, only to register he couldn't think of a single person beside his mum and Robin.
"I can't trust Liam and Zayn," He had reasoned as he stood in the turbulent storm. "But, who else do I have, then, if I can't trust them?"
With a sinking heart, Harry had understood in that moment that he had no one besides his family. He had grasped how alone he was.
However, Harry wouldn't allow the hand of loneliness to grasp him just yet. After all, he had made a promise to survive without Louis, and he would be damned if he gave up not even an hour later. So, with his shoulders set, he had marched home and had locked himself in his room.
Unfortunately, the next day had done nothing but tighten the grip loneliness had on his beating organ as he had been once again reminded of how alone he was. In his first period, which would usually begin with the chimes of Louis' voice as he chattered about some topic, Harry was greeted with silence. No one had acknowledged him, and Louis had just passed his desk with a bowed head. No arguments. No greetings. Not even a glance. As if Harry no longer existed in Louis' world.
His second period had passed no differently: the other students remained with their friends, and Louis ignored Harry's existence. However, Zayn had attempted to converse with him, but Harry had simply ignored the other male until he ceased his endeavor to have a conversation.
His remaining periods had progressed similarly with lunch and study hall being the worst because in each of those periods, he had no one. No one to talk to. No one to lean on. No one beside his side.
"I'm alone," Harry had discerned once again, only this time, loneliness had him enveloped in her cold dead arms. "Completely and utterly alone."
And once he had resigned himself to his hopeless fate, there had been no going back. Each day of that week had passed like a snail as his loneliness was emphasized time and time again until his bright emerald eyes had faded to dying blades of grass-until his spirit had been extinguished, leaving behind only hallow black smoke.
