The next morning, Harry is standing in front of his open locker as he exchanges his supplies, taking out notebooks he needs and returning textbooks he doesn’t need until later, when he notices the scent of chocolate and trees approaching him.

“Must be Niall,” Harry identifies the aroma with a melancholy sigh, “who will just pass me without a word like usual.”

However, just as Harry takes out his AP Literature novella, a warm arm brushes against his as a familiar figure leans against the lockers next to his own.

Emerald eyes widen as they scan Niall’s face, which is relaxed and open, searching for any indication of why Niall was standing next to Harry in school.

“Hey?” Harry finally greets with uncertainty, not quite sure how to handle this unexpected development.

“Mornin’,” Niall responds with a sweet smile that reveals a hint of pearls.

As soon as Harry sees the smile, all uncertainty vanishes as he relaxes and enjoys the moment.

“This is unexpected,” Harry calmly remarks. “You usually ignore me during school hours.”

“What can I say? You got me addicted to you yesterday, and I’m still searching for another taste of that high,” There’s a flirtatious smirk coloring Niall’s pierced lips, but Harry merely rolls his eyes as the artificial display.

“I wonder what made him decide to break routine and approach me in school?” Harry muses as he returns to his initial task. “I know it isn’t because of the charade he’s playing, though I’m not sure how I knew Niall was joking in the first place. It must be because we’re growing closer.”

“Why are you really here, Ni?” Harry inquires, his eyes still aimed at his locker. “And don’t give me that whole “I’m addicted to you” speech. Save that for your fangirls.”

A quiet chuckle rings in Harry’s ears like wedding bells, and the mere sound tugs Harry’s lips into a smile. However, when the sound fades from hearing, Harry peeks at Niall through his peripheral vision, and he notices the pensive expression coloring Niall’s face.

“I wonder what’s going through that head of his?” Harry fondly smiles at his mysterious companion, but he gives Niall a few moments alone as he gathers all his things and shuts his locker.

“I honestly don’t know,” Niall divulges as he looks down at Harry with a tilted head. “I just    I guess I just wanted to see you and,    um,    you know, hang out.”

Time stands still as emerald eyes pop out of their sockets while Harry’s jaw simultaneously hits the floor.

“Did Niall just say he wanted to hang out?” Harry wonders incredulously as he gazes up at the blushing blonde. “As in, hang out    in school?   ”

The mere thought of spending more time with Niall illuminates Harry’s face with delight as the curly haired boy immediately gives Niall an ear splitting dimpled smile.

“How about you take me to my first period?” Harry offers, his eyes bright with hope.

“I’d like that,” Niall quickly agrees, and Harry’s smile widens as he interlaces their fingers and begins walking towards his first period, Pre-Calculus, with Niall beside him.

As they walk down the crowded halls and past boisterous students, Harry briefly notices a few students openly gaping at them, or, to be specific,  their      hands.

“If eyes could speak,” Harry thinks with amusement, “then their eyes would say, “How did these two people who were enemies not a month ago turn into    this?”    I’m still not certain what we are, but I like it.”
