"The Eclipse Pack was made of werewolves that had gone rogue. More than anything, they wished to be seen as a sovereign nation, free of persecution from their former packs and capable of holding a territory of their own.

The five great packs—SIlvermoon, Bloodmoon, Dawn, Dusk, and Moonlight—would not allow this, and so the war began."

---

When the brothers said we were having a meeting with the allies, I thought it would be a serious discussion over cocktails.

Not a party.

My stomach twists and turns. I feel like a kid on the first day of school. What if they don't like me? What if I ruin my pack's reputation? I hold onto Carson's hand tighter, but he won't listen.

"This'll be great." He smirks. "You've just gotta get your nerves out. Trust me."

That's what he thinks.

Axel gives me a reassuring look, taking my other hand when he sees the face I'm pulling. "Don't worry. It'll be fine. Just..." He tries not to laugh. "Maybe breathe?"

Breathe? Oh yeah, that's a thing.

Ethel goes to open the door. Krys, Bri, and Onai are behind us. Carson, Axel, and Aiden are at my side. But still, nothing could prepare me for the deep voice that booms through the house.

"Carson?" An insanely tall guy, as tall as the brothers, comes bouldering into the living room.

Carson charges forward, screaming, "Dawson?"

They tackle each other, shoving each other this way and that. My eyes fly open. They're trying to kill each other, yanking each other into headlocks again and again. But they're laughing.

Why are they laughing?

"Man, is it good to see you." They clap each other on the back, asking how things are going. "My man." "My man!"

I exchange looks with the girl beside them. She shakes her head, giving them the side eye. "Tell me you didn't invite the boys over again." That's what her eyes scream. She looks like a disappointed wife. "When are you gonna get a life Jeremy?" I try not to laugh. Neither one of the guys seem to notice.

Carson wraps an arm around my waist, pulling me closer. "This..." He leans his head against mine, staring into my eyes. "This is Mia." He says it with all the pride in the world. Like everything begins and ends with that statement.

My stomach flutters for a different reason now, besides nerves.

"Mia," Dawson repeats.

Carson nods.

I don't know what to do. I smile, awkwardly. Handshakes? No handshakes? Nod or wave? Why didn't anyone prepare me for this? "Uh, Hi." I stick my hand out.

A few people laugh. My face burns.

He chuckles, "Hey." He looks at each one of the brothers for permission, and then the girl beside him, before taking my hand, gently. His silver, corkscrew curls flow with the motion. "I'm the alpha of the Dusk Pack. This is my beta, Zack." He points at a guy beside him, with equally silver hair. "And this is my mate, Hazel."

He happily drags the disappointed soccer mom to the front. She looks absolutely 110% done with him. She gives him that look I always give Aiden. The 'you've tried my patience for the last time, Herold' glare.

Dawson chuckles, apprehensively. "Uh... Love ya, babe?"

The first thing this girl says to me is, "How do you deal with three of them?" Then she says, "Don't let him give you the, 'we've gotta keep the alpha bloodline alive' speech. Run." She rubs her clearly pregnant belly and heads for the food bowl.
