For Gabi
Pebbles
I found them wedged in
the bottom of my shoes.
Tumbling out of the scuffed bottom,
An ombre of pink and white
scattered on the floor.
A souvenir never
meant to come back.
Unassuming,
they don't show their age,
these remnants of ancient ruins.
They have been to the edges of
the Mediterranean Sea,
bathing in the ice and salt.
And to the top of a mountain,
in search of a missing Oracle
that was said to drive you insane.
They have seen so much,
these Stowaways in my soul(s).
