For Brian
Sleep
Sleepless nights
cause a wandering mind
to go down dark paths.
Shadows twist and turn
into silent figures
that lie in wait for
your foot to slip
from the bed.
Radio white noise
fills your head,
with stations flipping
every two seconds.
Pop, rock, oldies, sports
stop to listen,
change the channel,
but nothing fits.
Where is
the off switch
in the brain?
