Chapter 2: Memories with a Side of Explosions

A/n: Alright, this is just an update about the storyline. Nora does go to school, but Steven doesn't. She is friends with Connie, is incredibly smart, and likes inventing things. She also does martial arts, and is aware about Amethyst's "hobby". She walkes home from school and gets there around sunset. Thanks for reading this! ShiningNova out.

Nora sighed as the teacher droned on about the Revolutionary War. She glanced over to her friend Connie, who seemed just as bored as she was. Nora remembered the day they met as if it was yesterday...

Flashback! (Nora's POV)

I smiled as I walked through the doors of East Middle School. I gazed around the school, before my gaze settled soon a large crowd. Pushing my way through, I saw an African American girl shiver under the harsh stare of a boy. I growled as I recognized the boy. James East, son of the principal and school bully. He stalked over to the girl. "You think you can hit me and get away with it? Well, you've got some nerve if you think so. I'm going to teach you a lesson you'll never forget!" I'd had enough. Shoving the rest of the crowd away, I walked in front of the girl. "What is wrong with you!" I yelled. "She just accidentally bumped into you, and you think you can beat her up for that? How dare you!" And with that, I punched him in the gut, causing him to fall over. Helping the girl up, we walked off together. "My name's Nora, what's yours?" I asked. "My name is Connie." 

Flashback End!

Since that day, we've been best friends. I've even convinced her mom to let her take martial arts with me. I've also told her and her parents about the gems, and they accepted that. In fact, her parents even said that I was welcome over whenever I want. To be honest, they're like the family I never had, especially now that Steven's discovered he has powers. I can tell them everything, and they have a room in their house that's just for me and my inventions. Life is good there. As I walked home from school, occupied with my thoughts, I saw an explosion. "Oh great," I thought. "What did they do now?"
