Anees's Pov

"Hello?? Is anyone there??" I said once again

"Anees!! Are you home?? I need help with the grocery.." I heard my mom yell

Before I turned back, I could've sworn I saw a shadow.. Maybe it was just my imagination. I walked back to the living room and saw my mom struggling with the groceries. I helped her out.

"The guys aren't home yet?" I asked

"No.. Your brothers have practice.." She said

"Mhmm.."

My mom went to her room after making some food and putting everything away in the right place. I was still feeling a little frightened.. There must've been something in the house. If it wasn't a human, then it must've been an animal. But if it wasn't an animal, it must've been a human. I felt shivers run down my spine at the thought of someone breaking in and trying to steal something. My mom saved me then.. Because being the stupid person that I am, I would've probably gotten killed for being a nosy brat.

I decided to walk up to my room instead of thinking about this too much. I instantly fell onto my bed. I looked to the side and saw that there was something on my desk. I got up and looked at the small note. It was a white paper with neatly written words. Well someone knows about calligraphy.

"Stay away from my caged bird." I read the small note

Who the hell? Who's the caged bird? I don't even own a bird. Holy fuck!!!!! The sound that I heard was certainly someone. I could've gotten killed. How the hell did they get inside my room? No. How did that person get into my house. God for all I know they're still here. I looked around and searched my whole room. Thankfully I found nothing. But now I'm scared. Who is this? Is this a threat?

'Of course this is a threat you idiot!' My inner voice spoke

I kept the note in my pocket. I walked through the hallways cautiously. I was looking closely at everyone. I saw Ruth's dead friend. Elani.. I wonder what's wrong with her. Should I go up and speak to her?

'Go, maybe she knows something' my inner voice told me

So I walked up to her. She looked up at me confused. I smiled at her hoping that it would take the awkwardness away.

"Anees, what's up?" She said

She looked like she hadn't slept in days. Like if someone was haunting her.

"Are you okay? You look really tired.." I asked concerned

"I haven't been able to sleep so well." She said with a sharp sigh

"what's wrong?" I asked

"N-nothing. Nightmares.." She said

"Of a caged bird?" I asked

"Wha-how??-" she couldn't even get the words out

I took out the small note and handed it to her.

"Someone broke into my house last night.." I said quietly

"Omg! I'm not the only one.. I got threatened personally.. That asshole tried to kill me! And he told me to stay away.. And now I'm scared because I feel like someone is always watching me.. I'm scared to even blink.." Her hands were shaking slightly

She had been tormented quite a lot. Her lips trembled and she looked like she was about to break.

"We need to find this person.. But Shh we can't say anything to anyone because we can put them in danger..." I warned
