Chapter 9: I Will Save You

Percy's POV

   I saw Annabeth tumble over board and I screamed. Nero was motionless on the ground, and the two guards dumbly staring at me. But all I could think of was Annabeth. How she fell. How she was bound together like a hostage. She should not have ever been treated that way. I should have been there to save her.
  I dove over the side of the boat into icy cold water. I didn't see her. Where did she go? My mind was racing as frantically swam trying to find her. Then, I saw something sinking down into the depths. It was Annabeth. I swam as fast I could, and grabbed her. I swam her all the back to the beach. Nero's boat was long gone by the time I looked back.
   When I put her on the sand, she didn't move a muscle. She was unconscious or worse. I began doing CPR. I have never ever been more scared in my life. What if I lost her. What if I was too late? I started I blaming myself for what happened that night. But, before I lost all hope of her still being alive, she spluttered.
  "P-Percy?" She asked weakly.
   "I'm here Annabeth, I'm here, we're okay now." I held her in my arms as she cried. I held her tight as my chest became soaked with tears.  After all that we had been through, tonight was the night that I thought I actually had lost her. But I hadn't, and we were going to be okay. I was just about to say something when I heard the clopping of horses hooves nearing us.
  "Percy! Annabeth!" Chiron yelled. "What's wrong?" Annabeth continued to sob as I told Chiron what had happened. I told him the whole story as he stood there and listened.
  "Oh my gods Percy. I didn't even hear a sound. One of the harpies alerted me that you two were missing from your cabins so I looked down here. I had no idea." Chiron said.
  "I think we'll be ok Chiron we just need some time." I said. Annabeth stopped crying and sat up.
   "Yeah. Chiron we can go into more detail tomorrow but we really need some sleep." She choked out.
   "Ok you all get some sleep. I'll alert some people to keep watch for that yacht. We will have a meeting tomorrow in the Rec room. But right now go and get some sleep."
  Chiron stayed on the beach as Annabeth and I walked away.
  "Percy?" She said. "Can we go back to your cabin?"
   "Of course Annabeth, I was already planning on it anyway, since we're technically engaged and all." And with that thought I got down on one knee. 
    "Annabeth, I know this ring got taken off of you tonight, but we will always have each other. So, for the second time, will you, Annabeth Chase be my bride?"
   "Of course Percy, I will love you forever and always." I took her hand in mine, and we walked back to my cabin. We got in bed and I realized just how lucky I was to have her.
   "I love you Wisegirl." "I love you too Seaweedbrain." And with that long night behind us, and my protective arms wrapped around her, we finally fell asleep.
