I look over the edge of the bridge. I can’t do this anymore. I don’t belong anywhere. No one, other than my twin, Connor, likes me. I feel like I don’t belong. I’m worthless. That’s what my parents always tell me. Especially when they’re drunk. I turned 18 yesterday and as a happy birthday present from me to myself, i decided to end it all. I step onto the edge of the bridge. What a view! Then I change my mind. There are so many beautiful things in this world and I haven’t seen them. No, I’ll die after I’ve seen them all! I am about to step down off the ledge of the bridge, when a voice calls out.
“Hey, you!” I turn and see the famous boy, Liam Payne from One Direction.
“What?” Any other day I’d be happy to meet him, but he just made jumping off this bridge a whole lot harder.
“What are you doing?”
“Dying” I say darkly because even though I’m not going to jump, I feel dead on the inside.
“You don’t want to do that.” He says softly.
“I’m already dead inside.”
He walks over.
“Don’t come any closer.” I screech.
He holds his hands up. “Sorry!” He stops walking forward.
“What do you want Liam?”
“That’s not fair! You know my name and I don’t know yours?” he asks.
I can’t help but laugh, but then I look down, avoiding eye contact. I step off the bridge.
“McKayla. McKayla Monroe.”
He holds out a hand, and I shake it.
“Nice to meet you McKayla.” He says smiling.
“You too.” I say.
“So, want to hang out for a while?” He asks.
I look down, I never hang out with people other than my brother. “uh, ok. Sure.” I say, not meeting his eyes.
2 weeks later
I laugh happily, holding Liam’s hand as we walk down the street shopping. Turns out the day I tried to kill myself was also the best day of my life because I met Liam, my boyfriend. It still makes me happy to say that.
“Let’s get you a dress, we’re going fancy dinner tomorrow night.” Liam says.
I grin, “ok!” Now, I don’t normally like shopping, but with Liam it is so fun!
We go into a store and I try on a dress. It is so ugly on me, I refuse to show him. The second dress, I once again don’t want to show Liam, but he insists.
He gasps when I step out.
“That bad?” I sigh.
“You’re b-beautiful.” He stutters.
“I don’t know...” I trail off.
He grabs my waist and pulls me to him.
“You’re the most beautiful girl in the whole world McKayla Monroe. Never say that you are less that that again.” The he kisses me.
