I swing my legs as I sit on the bench in the park. I’m wearing sweatpants and a sweater. Cozy, I have no one to impress. My crush likes me as a best friend, and I don’t give a damn about anyone else. The storm clouds overhead loom over us and as I look up, I can almost swear the first drop falls on me. I sigh. I better head home. Suddenly, I see five boys walking along. They all have their hoods up. I grin, I’ll trip one. Just for the fun of it.
I wait until the last second then stretch my legs out. I send one sprawling to the ground. I bit my lip, fighting back a smile.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” I say not meaning it.
He looks up at me, “Sarah?”
My eyes widen, “Liam? Here let me help you up.” Just my luck, I trip my crush / best friend.
He lets me pull him up. “It’s fine, want to join us?”
I smile, “sure.”
We head to a restaurant downtown. One of Liam’s friends, Niall, complains the whole way there saying that he isn’t happy we aren’t going to Nandos.
I look at the menu, “I’ll have a ceasar salad.”
“That’s it?” Liam asks. “Sar, that’s not enough!”
I shrug, I self consciously look down at my body. It’s not like I’m fat, but I’m not too skinny either. Then Liam continues, “Sarah, you’ve got to be kidding me! Come outside!”
He pulls me out of the booth and leads me outside. “You’re beautiful, I don’t understand why you have no confidence!”
I sigh, “I don’t know.” I look down.
Liam pulls me over to a bench. “I really like you Sarah, there’s no reason to not have confidence!”
I don’t believe him, how could anyone like me? I don’t even like me!
Liam’s eyes go wide, “how can you say that?”
Oops, must have said that out loud, bad Sarah.
“Sarah, look at me.”
I raise my eyes to meet Liam’s kind ones. They’re so beautiful. “I like you.” he whispers. “I’ve been meaning to ask you this for a long time, but will you be my girlfriend?”
I smile, my face lighting up with happiness. “Yes Liam!” I throw my arms around his neck and he hugs me tightly.
“Now that we’re dating...” Liam doesn’t finish his sentence. Instead, he leans in to kiss me. It’s soft and sweet.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for so long.”
I smile, “I’ve been hoping you would do that for so long.”
Liam takes my hand, leading me back into the restaurant. “Guys, listen. Sarah and I are dating now.”
The boys smile, “congrats.”
Louis cheers. “You guys are such a cute couple!”
I smile at Liam as he smiles at me. I admit it, we are a cute couple!
