"You're late!", was what Amelia said as soon as Caleb arrived in the Cafe."Um not really, my clock says it's 7'o clock", Caleb said as he looked at the watch on his wrist.
"You should fix it then because my watch says it's five past seven"
Caleb sighed and decided to start a coversation that didn't involve Amelia insulting him. "Alright. Uh how are you doing today?
"Fine."
"Anything bothering you?"
"No"
Caleb sighed again because it was clear that this conversation was going nowhere. Before he could say something else though, a waiter came and asked for their orders. They both ordered from their respective choices and the waiter left.
Caleb decided to ask a question that wouldn't have a one-worded answer, "So what are your hobbies outside of work?"
Amelia was quick to reply, "I like reading and sometimes writing my own stories. That's pretty much it. How about you?
Caleb gave himself an internal highfive. "I also really like reading mystery/thriller novels. My hobbies include, fishing, watching movies and making lots of friends. I like getting to know how and what people think. It's really fun!"
"I see. That does sound fun. Getting to know people, I mean. It's something I lack though." Her voice was barely audible as she said the last part and it was meant to be heard by her alone but Caleb heard her nonetheless. After that the waiter brought their breakfast and they indulged themselves in eating it.
"Are you married?", Caleb asked out of the blue.
"No, but I have a daughter. What about you?"
"Well, if I was married then I wouldn't have asked you out on a date, you know.", Caleb replied and laughed a bit. After they were done with eating, they stood up and Caleb paid for the food before Amelia had a chance to.
"You didn't have to pay for me as well, but thank you.", Amelia said as they slowly ambled towards her car.
"It's no problem."
"So why did you move here?", Amelia asked referring to her town. Not many people liked to come here and the ones that lived here now wanted to leave because of the increasing crime rates but they had no choice but to stay. Only the ones that had a lot of money or the ones that excelled in a particular field moved towards the bigger and busier cities.
"I have been to many places throughout my life. It's fun to visit new places and learn about them. My father used to tell me that the most tiniest places may hold the biggest secrets. And that's why I am here.", Caleb looked up at the sky as if what he was searching for would fall down from there.
"I see. That's an... interesting way of seeing things", Amelia said and then looked at her watch to see that it was quarter to 8. "Look at the time. I said I'd stay with you for fifteen minutes but it's so late. I have to go now."
"Time sure does fly when you are having fun." Caleb grinned at her while she scoffed in return. "By the way, uh I was just wondering if I can have your phone number, you know, just in case you need something and-"
"Here", Amelia interrupted and handed her phone to him. After saving his number in her phone, he gave a call so that he'll receive her number.
"Thank you", he said and returned her phone. "Have a wonderful day!"
"Yeah, bye." Amelia muttered and walked away towards her car.
Caleb looked at her retreating figure. As soon as she left, his phone started ringing and he picked it up.
"Hello?"
"How did it go? Did she say or do anything?
"Have some patience. I am trying to get her to trust me."
"We don't have time for that. People are dying daily. Hurry up and get an evidence against her!"
"Don't worry. She is just one of the suspects. If she really is the killer then I am sure that we'll all find out very soon. Just have some patience, Inspector."•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•

Ami: So you're taking her side even after she killed that poor family?
Mei: You mean the family we made her kill? 🙄
Ami: Yeah 😅, I am outta here. Don't forget to vote and comment!
