Shock hits me as I hold Hunter tighter in our embrace, and then my body starts shaking as fear racks me again. Hunter tries to soothe me before picking me up in his arms and carrying me out of his room and onto the couch in the living room. Blue and red lights reflect on the wall of the living room and I stare at them blankly, clearly in another place. I ignore the buzz around me as police are crowded in the room. A paramedic comes over and checks me out for any injuries, I stare off and look at Hunter. His shirt is covered in blood that I hadn't noticed before, there's also bandages covering some parts of his arms and there's a couple on his shirtless chest.
"Ms. Stevens," the police officer in front of me asks snapping me out of my daze.
"Yes," I say looking up at him.
The police officer begins to fire away questions about what had happen tonight. He asks about my relationship with the intruder, how he got into the house, and if I seen him with any weapons. I answer the questions almost robotically and the officer assures me that Kevin would no longer be able to harm me.
"ELEANOR!! HUNTER!!"
Addison's panicked screams make me jerk my head away from the officer before seeing Addy running through the front door. She wraps us both in a tight hug that we both reciprocate. Brett finally hustles through the open door and a look of relief is shown on his face as he sees us.
"My phone died and we were on our way home and I heard your message. Then we saw the police cars and I thought you were both dead," she begins to sob.
She releases us both from her grasps and looks at us both, checking us both for injuries. The main police officer breaks up our interaction to tell us they have all the information they needed and they would keep in contact with us about charges. We all nod and the officers all file out of the house and Brett shuts the door behind them.
Brett turns back around to the three of us, "What exactly happened tonight?"
I look around the living room and I notice the mess that marked tonight's events. Picture frames that had once lined the side tables had been askew or flipped on their sides, the chairs had been flipped over and a lamp lay broken on the ground. I look up at Hunter and I notice he's describing what happened, but I'm not really catching his words because all I can think about is that he saved my life. Hunter's touch on my shoulder snaps me out of my whirling thoughts.
"We should get to bed," he whispers.
I nod reluctantly, agreeing. I notice that Addison and Brett are no longer beside us anymore. Hunter leads me to my room, which seems untouched by tonight's events. I sit down on my bed and look over at Hunter whose looking down at his hands in his lap.
"uh, how did," I mumble, "how did he get in?"
"Through the back door, it was unlocked. That's the one door I didn't check. How could I do so stupid," he yells.
