My screaming wakes me up from my slumber. I'm caught in my comforter as I roll side to side trying to free myself from my nightmare. I hear someone running down the stairs and my door quickly swings open revealing a concerned Addison.
"Ellie, what's wrong," she asks.
I look at her with wide eyes before I cover my face with my hands and sob. The crying only worsen the usual pounding in my head. Addy's arms encircle me in a hug and I lean in closer taking in the comfort.
"Ellie, what's wrong," she asks again.
I shake my head slowly, before uncovering my face. I make eye contact with Addy. I take a deep breath before I open my mouth to speak, but Addison cuts me off.
"I'm really sorry for all the things I've said lately. I'm just trying to protect you," she whispers.
I nod my head in acceptance and lean in to hug Addy back. I would've never asked her to apologize over something like protecting me. Addison has always been the one to protect me since we've become friends. Whether it was from my parent's "interventions" as they called it, the ruthless girls at school, or even from myself. Addison has always been the older sister I wanted or more or less needed.
"Come on, let's go fixed you breakfast," Addy nudges me.
Addison helps me up and hands me my crutches and I follow her out of my bedroom. We both walk silently into the kitchen and Addy directs me to sit down at one of the chairs at the breakfast bar. I oblige and Addy turns swiftly before pulling our ingredients from the fridge. I sit and watch her cook up breakfast, thinking about how for the first time since I've been here everything seems okay. That thought soon left when a glum looking Hunter walked into the kitchen. Addy greets him good morning which he only responses with a grunt before taking a seat next to me. I smile tightly at him. He grunts at me and I mimic his face and make the sound grunting sound.
"Ellie..." he warns.
"Ellie..." I repeat in a serious tone.
"I'm being serious."
"I'm being serious."
Hunter is the first to break and tries to stifle a laugh but fails miserably. His once serious face cracks into a full out laugh. Hunter side eyes the bottle of maple syrup sitting on the counter and before I can thin about what he is doing, he lifts it above my head and squeezes. Sticky syrup drops down off of my hair and onto my face. I quickly try to grab the bottle from him but he lifts it too high enough for my 5'5" self to reach. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Addison opening the fridge and grabbing out a can of whip cream. She quickly sprays Hunter in the face causing him to become off guard, I grab the maple syrup from his hands and begin to drench him. Hunter grabs the can of whip cream from Addy before spraying both of us with it. I switch from covering Hunter with syrup to Addison.
"Hey," she says angrily.
Hunter and I both laugh and Addison joins us before doing so, until we're interpreted by the sound of grocery being set down.
