Today was my time to shine. Confidence, excitement, and curiosity filled my head. I was ready to challenge Mthunzi for dominance. I had trained for this moment for the year I had been walking across The savanna.

As the sun dawned I roared challenging the pride for ruler. I was not challenging them because of hatred but because the pride had no male and a king and protector. I would father the cubs, defend their territory, and protect the pride.

Mthunzi answered my challenge with a roar that could blast you away. I approached the pride with dignity and pride. The pride attacked me with all paws on deck. I fought off the pride and managed to calm them down. After the brawl they settled down. I didn't I had a job to do. I tracked their cubs into the den. I mimicked the call of a mother lion and drew them out.

Hate me if you want, but I Killed all the cubs. What! you say. "Kuberi what a meanie!" But here's a dig on the lion perspective. I didn't know these cubs. If I let them grow up they would kill me. In the lion world you raise your own children not some stranger's kids.

By doing this I was erasing the board for another artist. I was starting fresh. And by doing this I put the lionesses into heat. No not the hot kind of heat, the mating season kind of heat. I must say though, the expression on Mthunzi' s face when her children died almost brought me to tears.

I was introduced to some of the lionesses. Wawindaji was the most agile hunter in the pride, Inaafa was the strongest lioness in the pride. Other lionesses were built for kills. I saw them all except for Mthunzi. She kept mainly to herself and never spoke to anyone.

I stayed with the pride for months into the dry season. At the peak of the dry season I had already become a "Viceroy of the Savanna." I led the hunts for large prey like giraffes, buffalo and elephant. The buffalo were always on the move but the resident food source was elephant. Mthunzi was a legendary elephant killer. Rumors spread that in her life she killed 20 elephants.

The legend of Mthunzi was a mighty and powerful one. I had hired an assistant jackal to help me. Hekima was his name. Hekima had watched the pride for a long time. But nothing he said about Mthunzi.
