We marched towards Msaliti's army. The last of her forces 20 lions strong. We were outnumbered. Lighting scorched the plains, setting the grass ablaze. We planned to confront Mthunzi in the dead of night.
We split into groups of five and used the cover of night to attack Msaliti's position. We arrived at the site and found Msaliti's army escaped. I lioness had picked up our army advancing and warned Msaliti and her troops of the oncoming attack.
We split up and searched for clues of lionesses. Tracks heading east towards the rocks, and tracks headed west towards the plains. We didn't have time to search both tracks. If Msaliti escaped she could find more lionesses and her sons.
We needed to find her fast before she rallied more lions. Mthunzi was gone to. Last night she had left to an unknown location. I just assumed she was headed off to give birth or something. We chose to split up, even though it meant our army was cut in half.
Haki went east and I went west. We trailed for hours looking for Msaliti. At about midafternoon we picked up the scent of fresh blood. We found a buffalo kill hidden in the bushes. Only a pride of lions can bring down buffalo. Msaliti was close. We trailed until we found a footprints in the sand. The fire had been burning all day and the savanna was boiling. We would be sleeping in firesafe ground if we weren't in war.
We were reaching the borders of the territory. If Msaliti escaped the kingdom we wouldn't be able to follow. We weren't going to cause trouble with another pride just for the sake of one criminal lion.
If Msaliti left the territory let it be. It would've have been better though if she was dead. She had committed every sin in the book. Murder, treason, assault, genocide. Msaliti held the death penalty for her crimes.
Mthunzi returned and called me away to a private place. She said that she found some clues. I followed Mthunzi into the thickets. A horrible surprise awaited.
A group of Fifteen lionesses including Msaliti ambushed me. I called out, "Mthunzi help me!!!!" Msaliti's soldiers pinned me to the ground. One lionesses covered my mouth with her own mouth. I was trapped. A group this size could easily maul me to death. Msaliti laughed and looked at me. "Your dear sweet Mthunzi worked for me all along." she said maniacally.
"That's not true!" I said, "She helped me when your idiotic, traitorous sons tried to kill me." Msaliti looked over and said. "the boys can get out of hand sometimes, I told her to make sure the boys left the honors of killing you for me."
I was in serious jeopardy. Death by maul. Mauling other lions to death was a common execution. They would all attack me biting and slashing me till I died. Mthunzi was no help at all. She had betrayed me. I looked up at her and asked, "Why?"
"You killed my children." She answered. My most trusted companion had dishonored the cause. The balance of power was at stake. With Msaliti as ruler the kingdom would fall into chaos.Five lions pinned me to the ground. I thought and then I wiggled and shook.
I broke free and started to run. "GET HIM!!!!!" Screamed Msaliti. The lionesses chased me towards the burning plains. They were about to catch up but then a burning piece of wood fell from a tree. There path was blocked and I was saved.
The fires engulfed the plains into a boiling hot sea of smoke and flames. Today was a bad day to get chased by a mad queen and her rebellious subjects. I was surrounded by flames on all sides. I turned to the north, flames blocked me. The south, flames blocked me. The east, flames blocked me.
But to the west was large rock elevated about fifteen or so feet above the ground. The rock could save my life, If I could climb up. I jumped up about ten feet into the air. I grabbed the ledgeclimbed up. The fire had reached the bottom of the rock. Smoke filled my eyes, The maniacal laugh of Msaliti followed.
"LET HIM BURN THEN!!!!" She told her soldiers. The fire engulfed the ground below. I waited till it burned out and headed down. I decided to find Haki and the others and lead an attack on Msaliti's position.
I wandered for three days searching for Haki. She had moved the troops away from the fire and towards the swamps. I found her and told her about the betrayal of Mthunzi. "No!" She said. I nodded sadly.
I looked towards my faithful subjects and told them: "Mthunzi has betrayed the cause. She now serves the traitor Msaliti and her forces. I need a strong and able bodied young lioness to replace her. Any volunteers?"
No one answered the request. It was time to attack Msaliti's position. Mthunzi, Msaliti and her 19 ,tomorrow would all die.
