I tagged along with the pride. I made sure to stay hidden away . Whenever one of the pride females turned around I ducked into the tree lines. I consider myself the stealthy, deadly , hunter. I followed them deep into their territory and when night fell I struck.
I first had to find where they had hidden it. I had to hide in the grasses and missed when they were hiding it. I followed my nose and searched for my meat. That meat was the only food source I had. If I gave up this meal, I was giving up my life.
No one ever said that becoming 'Lord of the Savanna' would be easy. Food was scarce around this time of year. I had wandered to a harsh, barren region of the Serengeti. The herds of wildebeest had long gone, leaving the buffalo as a food source.
The riverbed was far way from this territory. I had long passed the Mara river. I was impressed by the rough and tough of this pride. Nia would be impressed. I passed sleeping lionesses as I tiptoed towards the smell of meat. I as careful to be as quiet as an ant. Lions have amazing ears, able to hear prey from a mile way.
If I was going to get this meat I was going to get it the right way. I followed the scent to the carcass and dug it up. As I dug through the ground I searched for my food I thought about my family back my the river. They must've missed me since I left.
One lioness started to wake up. Dawn was rising in the east, soon the pride would stir and awaken. I had to work fast. I dragged the wildebeest out of the hole and ran way towards an acacia forest. I ducked into the grasses and watched the pride wake up.
One lioness caught my eye. She was slender and had the look of a leader in her eyes. "Mthunzi. " said one lioness. The lioness I was watching turned around. "Yes." She answered. "The buffalo herd is moving towards the forest, the woods will force the herd to spread out exposing their weaknesses." Said a smaller, younger lioness.
"We will attack the herd tonight." said Mthunzi. I liked this Mthunzi character. She was stable, firm and demanded respect. I decided that this pride was my new home and family. Mthunzi was obviously the leader of this pride. But maybe I could be a king and she could be a queen
