It was a few weeks before final exams when Liz began to feel better after the attack. So far, she had been safe, and unharmed by Marcus, or her evil cousin, Draco. She had quickly returned to herself, and only when she was alone would she constantly look over her shoulder and hurry silently down the halls.
One day, she had just reached the library to study when her friends overtook her.
“Hallo, Liz, you couldn’t possibly be thinking about studying on a wonderful day like this!” Katie said, her Quidditch practice uniform signifying that she was heading outside.
“Yes, indeed,” Oliver said, kissing her cheek.
“It’s really warm, and you’ve been studying all week! It’s almost like you think you’ll fail the finals, while you’re the smartest one of our year!” George laughed, nudging her gently. Fred and George and Lee had obviously been working on some new experiment, since their faces shone with happiness, and Lee’s ears seemed to have grown a little since class.
“Liz seems to be occupied. We should probably leave her be,” Angelina’s voice piped up above the chatter, noticing her friend’s overly confused expression.
“No, no it’s quite alright! I was actually just looking for an excuse to not study!” Liz giggled, shuffling her overly large stack of books around in her arms.
“Let me help you,” George and Oliver said at the same time. They both glared at each other as Liz handed the both of them all of her books, pretending not to notice the glare they were sharing.
“Thank you so much! Now I needn’t carry anything!” Liz said, linking her arms in Katie’s and Angelina’s and they headed outside together.
Once they were outside, they immediately began whispering to each other.
“Do you think George is jealous?” Katie asked.
“Maybe he likes you!” Angelina giggled.
“Oh perhaps, but I do have a boyfriend, or did you happen to forget?” Liz asked. Before either could reply, she shushed them as the boys approached. They had just dropped the books off in the Quidditch locker room before grabbing everyone’s broom.
“Are you ready?” asked Oliver, handing Liz her broom, with a pointed glance over at George who turned beet red.
“You bet I am!” replied Liz, getting on her broom and sweeping up to the air. She swept gracefully around the sky before settling directly above their heads. “Come on! What are you waiting for?”
Everyone, except Oliver, kicked off into the air. Oliver frowned and shook his broom, then climbed on and shot into the air.
“Is something wrong, Wood?” George called, looking confused.
“No, not that I think of,” Oliver replied cooly.
“Let’s go, boys!” Angelina called as she threw the Quaffle to Liz who took off down the field. “Oh!” she shouted as something whizzed past her face, nearly causing her to fall off her broom. “I thought we weren’t using Bludgers or the Snitch!”
“We aren’t!” Katie cried, right before a Bludger knocked her off of her broom.
“Kat-“ Lee’s voice was cut off by a hoarse yell.
“Something’s wrong with my broom!” Oliver cried, as his broom began to whip him around the field, bashing him against the stands, until he received a crushing blow to his head, which caused him to fall from his broom. He landed on the field with a ‘wham.’
Angelina’s voice let out a scream as she was thrown from her broom and thrown against the wall.
“Oliver! Angelina!” Liz screamed, racing down to Oliver’s side while Fred and George caught the Bludgers. Liz quickly made sure Angelina and Katie were okay before racing to Oliver’s side. His head was bleeding slightly, and he was completely unconscious. Liz shook her head then stood and whirled around to glare at George, who had begun to approach her. “How dare you??” She shouted at him. “How dare you set this up, just to get back at him. I know you like me, George Weasley! Don’t you dare deny it! Look at him! LOOK AT HIM!” She screamed at him, tears running down her face. “I’m going to get Nurse Wainscott.” She sprinted off towards the wing, sobbing.
“You didn’t, did you George?” asked Fred gently.
“No, but I doubt that it’ll change her mind,” George muttered miserably.
Everyone gathered around Oliver and silently waiting for Nurse Wainscott to arrive.
George looked up, and noticed a figure in the bushes, laughing but couldn’t tell who it was. The figure rushed away just as soon as Liz came back with the nurse.
“Is he going to be alright?” Liz immediately asked as Nurse Wainscott checked Oliver’s pulse and pulled out her wand.
“Ferula!” she whispered, and they watched as a few of Oliver’s broken bones began to heal. His left arm and left leg were healed, and his head was wrapped in a bandage. Nurse Wainscott stepped back and brushed her hands along the side of her dress and nodded. “He’ll be perfectly fine, but he’s to stay and rest in my care for a week or so.”
“But-“ Lee began protesting.
“No buts, Lee. However, I hope you still have yours!” Nurse Wainscott laughed, then realized that no one understood her joke, and shrugged, “No one understands humor these days, good heavens! Now, now, help me get him into the hospital wing, will you?” She bent down and started to pick Oliver up with the help of Fred and Lee.
They helped him back to the hospital wing where everyone split up solemnly. Liz went to the corner next to Oliver’s bed with Katie and Angelina, who seemed to be quite fine and were able to walk around. Lee, George and Fred had left the wing.
“I can’t believe how awful that was! Why would George do something like that?” Liz cried, clearly distressed.
“Well, he might not of. I think I saw someone in the bushes who seemed happy to have ruined our day,” Angelina admitted.
“What? Why I bet it was that horrid cousin of yours, Liz,” Katie exclaimed.
“I suppose it was, but now I feel awful for shouting at George so terribly. I should go apologize, once Oliver wakes up. I’m so sorry, girls. This day has been dreadful from start to finish.” Liz said hanging her head.
“Cheer up! We’ll get our revenge soon enough.” Angelina said.
