Ouija

We all placed our fingers on the planchette; apparently, the AV club wasn't planning to stay down in the basement until ten o'clock to play D&D, as they had acquired an Ouija board, and decided it would be a great idea to just sneak a round in, of course Mike's parents would flip if they found out that we had an Ouija board.

"But what if we summon, like, Zozo or something?

"What if we summon you?" Lucas retorted.

"Shut up!" Dustin whacked Lucas with his hat.

"Get your hands back on the board!"

That settled it, and everyone went quiet as we began. It was on our third try we got a response.

"What is your name?" Mike called out.

Dustin wrote down letters as the planchette moved around.

"It says "Master"."

It was my turn to ask a question.

"What do you want from us?" I felt a growing sense of horror as I watched the planchette  move in response.

"Dominance of all dimensions..." Dustin read, raising his eyebrows.

"Maybe we should quit..." Mike began, but I stopped him.

"No. I want more answers."

To the board I asked,

"Are you from the Upside Down?"

The response was yes. My blood turned to ice. There was too much of a coincidence. The name "Master", wanting control over others, originating from the Upside Down. It was the Mind Flayer. Then the planchette shot across the board, to all four corners, then it went through the numbers before I could stop it.

"Oh shit!" Lucas yelled as the lights began to flicker. I rushed to swipe the planchette over the goodbye, and the lights stopped blinking. I shoved the board under the couch as Mrs Wheeler peeked through the basement door.

"Did you guys just get that power outage?"

"Yeah."

She held the door wide.

"Well, I guess that's our signal to pause for the night."

The statement was followed by agonized groans as the AV club walked up the stairs.

"What just happened," Will hissed,

"We never signed up for."

"Well, now we know that the Mind Flayer can influence an Ouija board."

I pedaled off, towards my house. Everyone was asleep when I got home. The demogorgon was standing in the shadow of the house.

"Long game?" He asked as he climbed through the window.

"We started playing Ouija," I replied.

"On our third try, we got a response. It was from the Mind Flayer, and he nearly made a portal."

"That's a bad sign," he commented darkly.

"You should tell them to get rid of it, not have any more contact with that dimension. The Mind Flayer can make a portal off just about anything."

"Yeah," I replied, hugging up against his light colored torso.

"I wanna get rid of that stupid monster and all his portals.."
