And as I lay back in bed
hearing my heart pound over my ears,
I can't help but worry
about the future.
If there's even a future at all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I lay back and welcome sleep,
but it doesn't enter my realm.
It's avoiding me and getting farther
as time passes by.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These thoughts won't leave my head
at 1 am,
and I pray for the first time
in a long time.
For peace, for safety, for happiness.
To be content with life.
Because, it seems I haven't been
content in a long time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All I need
is a distraction.
To clear my mind,
at least for a fraction.
I just want some quiet and peace
in my mind.
I just want some slumber, some sleep,
for the night.
