The one day that changed her life.

Chapter 3: The first day of a new life.

So today is the day. I got out of bed and looked at the time, it was 7:00am, I was suppost to meet Hoppo at the tower at 9:00am, so I decided that I would go get breakfast at a Bondi cafe. I got dressed even though I had no idea what to wear. I left my apartment complex and started walking. I only lived in Bronte so it was about a 20min walk because my walking was so slow. I reached bondi and looked around deciding where to have breakie. I walked into this cafe named the LadyJ cafe, I asked for a table for 1, they showed me a table so I went and sat down. I looked at the menu, and then ordered. I waited for about 20mins then received my meal. I started to eat my eggs and bacon, as well as drinking my fresh juice. It was so yummy. I paid then left. By that time it was 8:30am. I still had another 30mins so I decided to go for a walk on the beach. While I was walking across Bondi beach I saw a young teen girl needing help, I looked around for a lifeguard but they all already looked busy. So I pulled of my shirt and shorts and ran in. It was still winter but getting close to spring so the water was cold but bearable. I swam against the current and reached the girl; she was going under so I dove under and retrieved the girl. I started swimming her in when a lifeguard reached us on a rescue board so I gave the girl over to him, after the girl was in the hands of the lifeguard I started swimming in. I walked into shore and grabbed my clothes. The lifeguard came over to me:

"That was really brave! You should become a lifeguard!"

"Thank you. Funnily enough I am becoming a lifeguard, today is my first day."

"At which beach?" The lifeguard asked with an interested look.

"This one actually."

Hoppo saw me talking to the lifeguard and walked over and interrupted.

"Oh Maxi, I have seen you have already met our new trainee Jessica. Jessica welcome to Bondi beach, I have seen you have already done your first rescue."

"Yes thank you, couldn't help myself, can never start too early." I replied to Hoppo hoping he actually wasn't mad at me for doing a rescue without asking, but I actually couldn't help myself I had to help that girl.

"Yes Hoppo, she rescued a young teenager, without her the girl would have been close to gone. We have a good one this year, but no one beats me." Maxi said with a funny grin on his face.

"Yes Maxi, keep telling yourself that." Hoppo replied to Maxi's comment.

Maxi then walked off.

"So Jess, you ready to meet the rest of the team? Don't worry they are not all that bad."

"It's ok I have 2 brothers and one of them has the exact same ego aha."

We walked up to the tower and walked in the door, inside I was secretly freaking out about what they would all think of me.

"Ok everyone this is Jess, Jess this is Maxi who you have already met, Harrison, Gonzo, Kerrbox, Chappo, Jake, Beardy, Mouse, Whippet and Jesse."

"Hi guys, I am really looking forward to working with you and getting to know you!" I looked at all of them, some were really short and some were tall, but they all looked like really nice guys! But one caught my eye mainly because of his tattoos! Jesse was his name. He had brown hair and these amazing blue eyes that looked like the ocean water in the tropics. He looked like a nice guy but what scared me were his tattoos! Growing up my father never really liked tattoos so I grew up thinking they were scary and who ever had them was scary, but he had such a teddy bear face! After meeting me all of the guys went back to their jobs or whatever they were doing. Hoppo led me to his office were I would get my uniform and have to sign boring paper work.

"Ok here are your boardies, swimmers, hat and jersey. Just sign here and then that's it."

I signed and took my stuff

"Done and dusted."

I grabbed all of my stuff then walked out of his office. I walked onto the promenade and started walking home. While I was walking home my phone buzzed, it was an email from Hoppo to all the lifeguards about what shifts we had for the next week. My name was on for tomorrow, 9am till 3pm, I looked at who I was working with: Jesse, Maxi, Mouse, Beardy, Chappo and Yatesy. I hadn't met Yatesy yet but I had met all of the rest so I was excited to work with all of them. I reached my apartment and planted all of my clothes onto my bed as usual and then walked to the kitchen to put the kettle on, I grabbed a packet of 2 min noodles, I know so nutritious, I heated them up and then sat on the couch, I looked over the channels and found the movie 'Bra Boys', I had noticed that on the back of Jesse as one of his tattoos. I pressed to watch it.

When the doco ended I learnt a lot about Maroubra and the Bra Boys. They seemed like a nice group of boys! And Jesse looked so young and funny! Couldn't wait to work tomorrow and tell him about watching it.

I went to my room, slipped into some shorts and an old shirt, brushed my teeth then went to bed, a big day ahead tomorrow!
