Jack's POV
It didn't feel right. Not right at all.
Jack had always hated trains. They made him feel very uncomfortable. Sitting in them made him feel like they were leading him to his fate or his doom.
Jack looked out of his window and tried to concentrate, looking outside. Everything was going in a blur. Too fast for him. Loud as well.
Was this the right decision? Jack thought to himself. He hoped it would lead him somewhere new. A place where he could start a new life and feel right for once.
Yeah. Like that would happen.
Nothing felt right. Nothing has ever felt right for Jack. Not when his father had died in a war and left their family poor, not when his sister, Emma had almost drowned in a lake, not when his mother was ill in bed and certainly not when his mother had slapped him across the face for putting Emma in danger.
So overnight, when Emma and his mother were in sleeping, Jack quietly packed his things into a small bag and left a note on the table for his mother, hoping that she would understand and then quickly left at midnight.
Jack had gone to the nearest train station and hopped on a random train. He didn't know where he was going and he didn't care.
Now he sat there in silence, wondering when the train would stop.
Jack rested his head on the window and closed his eyes.
Jack was standing in the middle of the frozen lake, Jack and Emma always skated on. Emma however wasn't there. It was just him and the moon. It was dark but Jack wasn't afraid.
Jack wanted to reach out to the moon but his feet were stuck to the lake. He tried to move but his legs were frozen. They felt like ice. Then he was ice itself.
Suddenly the frozen lake began to crack and Jack slowly fell through into the dark, murky water. It was cold and dark. There was no light to help him see. He tried to scream for help but water reached to his mouth.
Then Jack heard a voice. A deep voice was calling him.
"Jack..."
"Jack..."
"Jack!"
Jack woke up. That was a weird dream. He rubbed his eyes with his fists and shook his head.
"Jack!"
Jack spun around and saw a familier face behind him, "Jamie! What are you doing here?"
"We're going to New York to visit dad!"
Jack looked surprised, "Who else is with you?"
"Just mom and Soph," Jamie replied, "I didn't know you were going to New York as well!"
"Ne-"
Suddenly Jack felt train stop. "We're here!" Jamie shouted, jumping up from his seat.
"New York! New York!" yelled Sophie, bouncing on the seat.
New York! Jack thought. Maybe I can start a new life here!"
Jack grinned at Jamie, "Well I guess you'll be seeing a lot of me around!"
"Yay!" Jamie shouted.
"Jamie, who are you talking to?" Jamie's mom asked. She then noticed Jack stitting there, "Jack! What are you doing here?"
"Uh...I'm visiting some friends," Jack lied.
"Does your mother know?" Jamie's mom asked.
Jack thought about the note on the table and nodded, "Yeah! She knows!"
"How about you come stay with us?" Jamie's mom suggested, "You can meet Jamie's father."
Jack's eyes lit up, "Okay! Thank you so much!"
Jamie's mom smiled, "It's the best I can do for a friend of Jamie's."
Jamie beamed, "Did you hear that, Soph? Jack's staying with us at New York!"
Sophie giggled, "Jack's staying! Jack's staying!"
Jack laughed and ruffled Jamie's hair, "Yep! Jack's staying with you guys!"
And for once, everything felt right for Jackson Overland.
So that's Jack's chapter done! Next is Astrid.
Song: Nobody's Home by Avril Lavigne (maybe change the lyrics a little, e.g. instead on she wants to go home, it would be he wants to go home)
