The next day started off... strange. Lena wasn't her usual cute self. Was it the party? I couldn't think of anything I did to upset her. She would avoid me as much as she could, unless I approached her.
When we arrived at school I stayed with Lena for most of the time until she said: "Shouldn't you be with your other friends?"
I looked at her and didn't say anything immediately. I studied her movements; her hands were pushed in her pockets and she looked uptight. "What's up with you?"
She scoffed. "Does it matter? I'm just some little sister to you." She stopped abruptly and realized what she said. "You know what, I have to go anyway." She turned without saying goodbye and disappeared into the building.
Little sister? I had absolutely no idea how to react to this. And I still don't. I walked off to Jonathon and sat next to him on the bench which surrounded a birch tree.
"So did it work with Casey?"
"If by work you mean didn't talk to me for the rest of the night after Spin The Bottle, then yes." I sighed and leaned back to rest my head on the tree. "She's never going to like me now. She's not like the others. Everyone else wants to know if I'm single or if they could have my number but not Casey! She wants nothing to do with me and I can't stand it!" I groaned and put my hands to my head.
"Have you ever realized that maybe this means she does like you?" I looked at Jonathon. He had a point; maybe she's playing hard to get! "Or maybe she doesn't like you at all..." I frowned and put my head back between my hands. "Or not! You never know. You just gotta ask her, that's all."
I sighed. "You're right, there's no harm in asking right?" I straightened up. After second period I'm going to go and ask her. "But wait," I turned and re-positioned myself to face him. "She said something last night. She said she only dates bad boys..."
Jonathon stopped throwing the ball he was playing with in the air. "She does seem the type to date bad boys." He looked me up and down. "You have potential..." He laughed when he saw my face. Potential?
"But how am I supposed to get her to like me the way I am? I mean, who's even a bad boy in our grade anyway?"
Jonathon looked around and pointed to a guy with black hair slicked back hair like Zac Efron except the sides of his head was slightly shaved so that it looks like it's fading. He was leaning on his motorbike and talking to several girls. "That my friend is Danny Vendoll."
As I looked closer at Danny, I noticed that one of the girls was Casey. "Is- is that Casey?" I squinted. Ugh, it is.
"Yup. Come on let's go over and talk." Jonathon slapped me on the shoulder and we both got up and walked over to Danny. "Hey man," Jonathon did some sort of handshake with him. "This is Hugo."
I nodded up to him to signal a hello. "Hey I've heard about you, aren't you that English prep?"
I chuckled. "I guess you could say that."
He nodded, observing me. I looked over at Casey, the other girls had left him but she was still here. She looked at me and smiled sarcastically. She turned around and put her hand on Danny's arm.
"Hey D, come with me to my locker to get my books?" She looked at him as if she had something else planned.
Danny ran his hand along her jaw. "Sure, why would I say no?"
As Casey turned to leave, he winked at us before walking confidently behind her. Jonathon turned to me and smiled sympathetically. "Sorry Hugo, didn't think she was interested in him..."
"Why wouldn't she be? He's her type and he seems like someone she would date." If I really did like her I had to try harder. I've always been all good, so what's wrong with letting loose a bit? "We're going clubbing tonight." I started walking to AP Calculus
"Say that again?" Jonathon ran after me. "Did you just say clubbing?"
"Hell yeah. And you have no choice you're coming with me."
Jonathon laughed. "Well duh! Anything to go clubbing with my best man!"
