I opened the blue door to enter my usual room. I volunteer here at my local hospital, Doncaster General. I do it to help the patients and to help them forget their worries. I know how it feels, because I ended up here in the occupied bed, I stared at, before. How I wish someone was volunteering to help me.
My family moved here from Homes Chapel Cheshire, because my stepdad had his job relocated to Doncaster, a little ways from our new home. In complete boredom I decided to check out the hospital I stayed at a month after moving here.
The receptionist, Meryl, asked if I would like to volunteer here due to my lack of productiveness. I accepted, because I was interested in helping and I had nothing better to do.
So here I am. In my usual "candidate's" room.
I walked over to the hospital bed slash gurney he was laid in. It looked both comfortable and uncomfortable so I brought him one of our best blankets from home a little while ago. As well as a few more pillows and a thin sheet if it was only chilly. I would only lay them on him if I felt it was too cold for my liking. Sometimes I would snuggle in with him, and no one would notice, because the nurses and doctors know I care for him a lot so they never come in here without knocking.
I traced circles on the light blue sheet he laid on, and began speaking to the boy who went by the name Louis.
"Hello, Louis. It's me once again. Your best friend," I joked while smiling and nudging his sleeping body. "It's Harry."
Of course, he did not respond. He was incapable of doing so. I smiled and looked down and my hand that had found its way to his. I squeezed it.
I looked up, while still squeezing his hand. Before speaking again, I studied his face. I was always really fond of his face. Skin almost naturally tan, chocolate coloured fluffy fringe covering his face, plump lips, high cheek bones, etcetera. I have never really seen his eyes, but I've always imagined them a hazel-like-brown.
"Louis, do you wan't to read some Peter Pan? You know, I always imagined you like Peter Pan. You kind of look like him, with out orange hair of course," I chuckled.
I studied his face once again. Whenever I saw him, he had a small smile playing on his lips. It was a nice smile.
"Alright, well I'm reading it to you anyway," I exclaimed.
I didn't know if he could hear me. I didn't really care. I loved sharing with people. My stories always bring me joy so I like bringing joy upon others as well.
So as I began the book I was brought away to my fantasy worlds, and I like to think Louis was too.
When I finished reading, I looked up at the clock seeing I had only a mere five minutes left here and that I had already been here for an hour and twenty five minutes.
I sighed. "My times seems to be almost up, here, Lou." I never liked leaving from the Hospital, even though I would be coming back. "Don't worry, Lou, I'll be here tomorrow," I smirked. I was really trying to reassure my self.
I went to ruffle Louis' hair. It's what I do at the end of every volunteer session.
His hair was so soft and fluffy. I loved it. A giant grin was on my face.
I tucked him in with the sheet I had brought beforehand, then got up and headed for the door.
I placed my hand on the knob and turned around. "Bye, Louis. See you later, mate."
With that, I left for another night. I went to the lobby and signed out, saying a good bye to Meryl.
