Chapter song: Couldn't Stop Caring - by Spiritual Machines
I stood up off the ground and slowly walked back over to the circle of ash, that I had tried to pass through and failed. I could feel the eyes on me as I reached out my shaky hand, and it was shocked by the ash. I winced in pain as I turned around to face Scott.
"Sc-Scott... why- uh why can't I cross?" I stuttered my voice cracking in fear
"Cali, is there something you're not telling us?" Derek said, his voice kinder than usual. He took a step closer to me, so we were only a few inches away. He grabbed my hands and inspected them.
I shook my head vigorously "No." - yes-
I couldn't tell them about the prison and the juvie and the fights, they would leave me.
Suddenly, claws pierce through my fingertips, in place of my nails. I gasped, looking down at my once manicured hands. I shot my head up to meet Derek's eyes. I felt hair tickle my face, as I reached up to move it, I felt new patches of hair that had grown within a matter of seconds. I opened my mouth and felt my teeth, I had fangs.
"Scott, what is going on?" I plead, looking past Derek.
"Cali, you're turning" Scott said, he took a step towards me.
I lunged at him, bearing my teeth and scratching at him. I couldn't control it, it was instinctive. Derek's grip tightened around the one wrist he still had in his grasp.
"Cali... Uh... You have to stay in control" Scott begged
"I-CANT" I growled clawing towards him, but missing and hitting the air, freeing myself from Derek.
I jumped at him again, this time my claws slashed at his neck. I dug them into his stomach and pushed him up a wall.
You want him to dead. His blood is what we want. His blood is what we need.
NO STOP!!! I screamed at myself
I'm losing all control. The animal inside me is taking over.
Derek came up from behind me, buried his claws into my arms, and shoved me to the ground.I have to stop before I kill someone.
I heard footsteps coming towards the vault. It was Allison I could... smell her.
She tip-toed to the seal of mountain ash. I bared my teeth at her, a growl tearing through my throat.
Allison slowly crouched over and ran her hand along the ashes, before brushing the ash away; breaking the seal. The seal that held all the blood thirsty, full-moon hyped, monsters inside.
As soon as the seal was broken, the wolves scurried out the bank vault and into the unprepared world. Scott chased after them while Derek stayed to keep an eye on me. I knew if I went out there I would have no control over what I was doing.
I looked into Derek's eyes, mine wide and full of fear.
"I'm sorry." I muttered, before the wolf took over and I ran into the night.
Everything was a haze, the world blurred around me as I sprinted. I felt a freedom I had never felt before. I was in love with my new found powers.
Sure I used to get angry once a month, probably on a full moon, and lash out at people. Sometimes even get violent but I had never morphed into something supernatural before. This experience was all new to me, completely surreal.
The way the wind felt in my hair, the way my eyes watered as the air whipped them. I was filled with the immense and insatiable urge to kill. Yet something inside me told me it was the best thing to feel. So I ran looking for blood. Yet the actual me hiding in the deepest part of my mind, prayed I wouldn't find what I was so desperately searching for.
It was like I was drunk on the wolf inside me. I had no control and I was completely okay with subduing to my animal urges.
Everything after that was an infrared blur.

A pain-filled howl, awoke me from my sleep. I jerked forward, yet I was held back by an itchy rope. I looked down at my torso to see there was a rope holding me against a pole. I yanked at it, but it was too tightly bound. It burned the bare skin on my torso, which I saw had no shirt to cover. I found the fabric that was once my shirt ripped to shreds, I scrunched my face at the sight of it and tried to remember the events of the last 8 hours. I winced every time I breathed. The rope must have been dipped in wolvesbane.
Cora and Boyd, the two other wolves from the vault, were mauling Derek. The big one, Boyd, held Derek against a wall whilst Cora tore into him. I let out an ear splitting scream, in an attempt to draw the attention away from him.
Boyd dropped him from the wall and Derek collapsed in his weakened state. They both looked at me, bearing their teeth.
Then they charged.
They crouched down, leaning into my struggling body, and they ripped at my flesh, my hands being bound, there was nothing I could do. I howled; my cries of pain echoing throughout the room hidden underneath the high school.
Isaac and Scott came running in, they both stood in shock as they took in the horror scene in front of them. After what seemed like an eternity they sprung into action. They pulled the crazed wolves off me, and shoved them to the ground. Isaac fought them off while, Scott went to untie the rope, but all it did was hurt him. The wolf poison in the rope burning his hands. He winced as he undid the knots and ripped the rope away from me. As soon as the rope fell off of my trembling body, I collapsed into Scott's tan arms.
I looked up at Scott, he cradled me in his arms. "Wh-how?" I stammered, a few stray tears escaping my eyes. "They were just, and then I was just." I looked down at my stomach to see the injuries had vanished just as fast as they appeared.
He paused, looking at me with pity in his chocolate eyes.
"You were worse than them..." He shook his head, looking over to Boyd and Cora "The ropes were the only thing that would knock you out... I'm so sorry." He looked down at my exposed torso, he ran his fingers across the red streak from the rope. My body scattered with goosebumps and I clamped my teeth down on my lips.
I glanced up at the ceiling while I let his words sink in. He told me I was worse then the two wolves who almost killed me. "I was worse than them?"
Scott nodded a grim look over taking his face, "Don't worry Cali, we're gonna help you figure out what's going on. But later on you're gonna have to open up to me." He placed his hand under my chin and forced me to meet his gaze, "I've been honest with you and so you're gonna have to be honest with me."
I nodded, another shiver overtaking my frame.
Scott took of his jacket and slipped it over my already healing torso. I pulled the sleeves over my arms and wrapped them around Scott's neck.
"Please just hold me. I only feel safe with you." I whispered
I knew it was too soon for me to be sharing all this with him but it was the truth.
In return he pressed my shivering body against his and I buried my face in his warm neck.
