Chapter Song: Losing My Mind - By Charlie Puth

The week I've been out of the hospital has been a tough one.

I went back home, well to the Martin's, despite the urge to stay with Scott. Sleeping alone is hard, especially with the nightmares. Lydia does her best to wake me when I start screaming, but she can't comfort me the way he can. My physical wounds have completely healed, it's the psychological ones that I fear will scar.

Over the past week Scott has told me that according to Deaton, him, Stiles, and Allison were marked with a sort of darkness. I think that darkness marked me too. I mean all four of us died, I just died a little earlier than they did. Scott said that darkness was the most likely the cause of my bloody shower the other day. Not that having some supernatural darkness to blame made me feel any better I'm still terrified. I haven't been able to stop second guessing myself about what I'm seeing and, I fear I will never be sure about reality again.

I tried to hide from my psychological trauma by becoming a recluse and not leaving the house, but that wasn't working. As much as the idea scared me; it was time to face the world again.

Today was our first day back at the infamous Beacon Hills High.

Lydia and I rode in a nervous silence.

"You can do this." Lydia smiled, breaking the silence.

"I haven't been back since that night." I grimaced.

The night that haunts my nightmares. The night I was defeated.

"I haven't been in that school since Jennifer strangled me. I died in there and we still don't know why I'm alive."

"I know." Lydia sighed, "but we're all here for you, if it gets to be too much just shoot me a text and we'll ditch, okay?"

"Okay" I mumbled,

"Scott's waiting for you." Lydia smirked

Scott was standing in the spot next to Lydia's designated parking spot. He pulled his hand out of his pocket to wave when he saw Lydia's car approaching the spot.

Once she parked he rushed to open the door for me. I blushed and climbed out of the car.

"Hey." He smiled as I slide my backpack on to my shoulders.

"Hey." I said with a nervous smile

"I'll see you two later." Lydia waved before strutting towards the school.

"How are you holding up?" Scott asked

I nodded and pursed my lips, "I've been better." I attempted to laugh, even though nothing about what's going on is funny.

Scott gave me a small reassuring smile before throwing his arm over my shoulders. We started walking towards the school and I could feel my breathing becoming more labored.

"How about you?" I asked, "How have you been?"

He didn't answer. Instead he stopped dead in his tracks and slowly turned around to look behind him. His eyes widened as he focused on his shadow.

"Scott?" I questioned. "What's going on?"

He lifted a shaky hand to point at his shadow. "Am I?"

I cocked my head and tried to see what he was seeing. All I could see was a boy who literally appeared to be afraid of his own shadow. "Are you what?"

My question made something click for him and his head snapped up to meet my gaze. "You don't see it?" He exhaled, "So I'm not?"

"I don't see anything." I stated with furrowed eyebrows. He was really starting to worry me. I took a step closer to him and grabbed his clammy hand in mine. "What do you see?"
